    Springfield Police
SPRINGFIELD — Police dogs were called in after a high-speed car chase to find and apprehend two men from Detroit suspected of robbing the Tiffany & Co. store in the Short Hills Mall on Oct. 15, Springfield Police said.
The men were identified as Devon Edwards, 29, of Detroit and KK McGilary, 23, also from Detroit, police said.
Shortly after 1 p.m., the Millburn Police Department issued an alert for two men suspected of committing a theft of jewelry from the Tiffany & Co. jewelry store at the Mall at Short Hills. The alert described the vehicle the suspects fled in as being a black sedan with Michigan license plates.
Springfield Officer Michael Lagola was traveling east on Morris Avenue near the intersection of Meisel Avenue when he said he saw a car fitting this description with Michigan license plates traveling west on Morris Avenue.
Lagola tried to catch up with the car. As he was confirming that the license plate matched the number from the alert, he saw the vehicle enter a gas station near the intersection with Millburn Avenue and pull up to the gas pump as if it was stopping to get gas, police said.
As Lagola pulled into the gas station, the car slowly pulled back onto Morris Avenue heading west, police said. When the officer activated his emergency lights and siren, the sedan then sped off, police said. It drove west in the eastbound lanes to pass cars that were stopped for a red light, police said. It then went through the red light at the Millburn Avenue intersection, police said.
Springfield Police Sgt. Joseph Cieri, who was at this intersection, started to chase the sedan, with Lagola backing him up. The chase continued onto Route 124 west into Short Hills, with the black sedan going right back to the Mall at Short Hills, police said.
As the car attempted a sharp fast turn onto JFK Parkway at the mall, the driver lost control and jumped a curb, disabling the car, police said. The two suspects then ran from the car, police said, with police in foot pursuit.
One suspect ran into a wooded area that comprises the Short Hills border with Summit in Union County and Chatham Borough in Morris County, while the other suspect ran into the mall parking lot, police said.
Police officers from Springfield, Millburn, Summit, Chatham as well as the Union County Sheriff's K-9 Unit responded to the area and established a perimeter while a foot search was conducted.
One suspect was arrested hiding in the wooded area he had run into while the second suspect was apprehended in the rear of the Short Hills Hilton Hotel on JFK Parkway, police said.
As the two subjects were verified to be the individuals who had committed the robbery at the mall, they were taken into custody by Millburn Police
Police said they identified the driver as Edwards and the passenger as McGilary.
Both were charged by Springfield Police with resisting arrest by flight and Edwards was also charged with attempting to elude police in a motor vehicle.
Bail was set at $150,000. Both men have a tentative court appearance in the Union County Superior Court set for Friday, Oct. 25, and are to be remanded to the Essex County Jail by Millburn Police.
