DougO has checked into this and apparently (according to VBulletin support) it's fairly common. The only solution would be to block large IP address blocks from the region the attempts are coming from.

Spammers....if only they'd use their powers for good.

Just received an email tonight about a fraudulent login. The IP originated in China according to IP Location Finder.

Password changed, so hope this is the last of it.

Hi, just to say while I'm still a massive B5 fan I have not been here for some years and today I received a few warnings that someone had attempted to access this site with my user name. It wasn't me so I think its your spammer..

Thanks for the warning, Dan! Even though it's a pain for new posters, now that DougO has set it up so that they have to post to an introductory thread before they can post to the forums, it's super simple to delete what little spam ever gets posted now. Sadly, that's not something that IMDb can use, I'm sure.

Hope they find a solution soon. And thanks again for the heads-up.

IMDb is under a massive spam attack to promote what appears to be Korean gambling websites. I've also seen these attacks on other message board systems. It's possible they may attack this site in the future.
