Would it be a bandwidth nightmare to have a little chatroom? We could schedule discussions and other fun stuff. I wouldn't be able to attend any of it, what with my goofy schedule, but it seems like a cool prospect for the forums.

Chatroom?
Recently, there was a reckoning. It occurred on November 4, 2014 across the United States. Voters, recognizing the failures of the current leadership and fearing their unchecked abuses of power, elected another party as the new majority. This is a first step toward preventing more damage and undoing some of the damage already done. Hopefully, this is as much as will be required.Tags: None

A chat feature is a good suggestion. Bandwidth should not be a problem. The hardest thing would likely be finding chat software that I could integrate with the existing vbulletin registration database. I'll keep it in mind when looking at new features for the site.
Thanks,

Sounds good, DougO. Only negative I see is that it could possibly stunt forum talk. Hey, we can always get our transcripting expert msunyata to post the chats.Recently, there was a reckoning. Chat room
Not that I am anywhere an expert on this kind of stuff , but someone could create a chatroom in yahoo ,msn or something like that , then tell everyone in the forum who wants to chat with other members that they can subscribe to that group. they also have voice capabilities so you can talk to each other. I talked to a guy in nepal one time and the best part -no long distance charges yiiippeee!!

I got thinking about it last weekend. At first I thought I'd write my own chat feature. Then I realized how much work it would be and began looking around at existing packages. I found a few that looked interesting, but settled on 123FlashChat because it ran with Flash (rather than requiring Java) and I could integrate it into the forums user database.
There are solutions that use javascript or rely on refreshing a web page, but I didn't find any that I liked real well. Sometimes it was a client issue and other times it had to do with the server side software.
It will be interesting to see how the chat feature gets used.
Enjoy,
-DougO
