  • Welcome to the support and suggestion forum!

Please feel free to use this forum to ask questions, submit suggestions, or report problems with the site.

I'm slowly working on an update to the site (JMSNews v2.0) which I hope to release in late December. If you have an idea for a new feature or a way to make the site better please let me know.

How about setting the announcement of the forums on the main page, to flash or something? I don't know how long it's been there, but I didn't notice it until this morning. I usually open the page and look to see if there have been any updates to JMS's posts. Then I close it.

Perhaps if the forus announcement was really visible, we'd get lots more people here!

All of Doug's posts are dated today ... It looks as though the forums just went online today, and that's why there weren't any links or anything.

Doug, great job! Keep it up!

Thanks for creating this forum Doug and again, many thanks for your hard work on this site. It is most valuable indeed!

The only suggestion I have right now is to make the searching a bit more robust. Maybe something like Google where you can require a search term or use AND OR attributes.

Oh I guess I have another suggestion ... your links are so long that it makes it hard to link directly to a particular JMS post. I end up using Google Groups instead a lot of times (plus you can see the post in context) but sometimes it is nice just to link directly to the JMS post.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Replies below:

          >How about setting the announcement of the forums on the main page, to flash or something?

I looked around for a nice animated bitmap but then settled on the gold star. All the animated ones I found were just to annoying. I'll see if I can find something better tonight.

Support for boolean query operators is something I hope to support in the next version of the full-text query engine.

          >your links are so long that it makes it hard to link directly to a particular JMS post.

Yep, those URLs are really long, particularly if they include state from the last full-text query. I am addressing this problem in the next version. The new URLs will look like this:

          http://jmsnews..com/msg.aspx?id=1-28871

Hey Doug, thanks for the great site and adding the forums.

Even though we're here to talk about all things JMS, I was wondering if perhaps you could think about adding a "Kitchen Sink" Forum for discussing everything else. I've noticed that frequently JMS's posts don't have anything to do with any of his projects (ex- the recent California Recall Election). I'm also a big poster on a website for swing dancers (yehoodi.com) and I've gotten to know many of my fellow posters through their Kitchen Sink forum. We all know that we share a love of JMS's work, and I'd think it would be interesting to see what else we did (or didn't) have in common.

Thanks for the suggestion, I've added an "Off Topic Discussion" forum. This is a community board and I'm all for people getting to know each other. Have fun!
