  • Sean Astin on Jeremiah

I saw Sean Astin at a convention yesterday. A fan told him how much she enjoyed his work on Jeremiah and asked if there was any chance of it coming back or if it might come out on DVD.

Sean told the same story JMS told about how he was with Stan Lee, met JMS and protrated himself at JMS's feet (I saw a sample of that, btw, because he did the same thing when he greeted John Rhys Davies). He said he loved the Mister Smith character and wished Jeremian could be continued. As long as JMS was writing it, he'd be there.

As for DVDs, Sean noted that MGM had recently been bought by Sony and that there was bound to be confusion there right now, but that it's their nature to want to make money so if there were websites and a way that fans could show that they *would* make money, that they'd be more likely to release it.

Later, I was able to speak to Sean *very* briefly as he autographed a Jeremiah item for me. He said that it was great and that the church scenes in "Crossing Jordan" were really intense. He seemed gratified to see Jeremiah fans at a Lord of the Rings convention and probably would have talked longer except for the 'expediter' constantly nudging him.

That's awesome, Jan, thanks for the report. He seems like a really nice, down-to-earth guy.

I'd imagine that other people involved with Jeremiah feel the same way as Sean. It's a shame, it really was a great show.

Any speculation on where the show would've went after Season 2? The two biggest questions I had were what happened to Smith and what did the Erin prophecy mean.

Unfortunately that was pretty much the extent of the conversation. I was toward the end of a long line and the 'expediter' kept shoving stuff in front of Sean to where I wanted to smack him (the expediter, that is).

It's been a while since I saw the second season episodes but as I recall, didn't Smith stop hearing the voice and his daughter started hearing it? While I don't think Smith would ever have been 'normal', I tend to think that he'd've had a role to play in the new administration concentrating on history and education since that was what he was involved in with the oral history people and the school for gifted children.

Erin...well, it sure sounded like she was in for heartache, didn't it? I didn't have a good feel for whether Markus might have come to care for her the way she wanted but I tend to think that he was trying to be kind in letting her down.

What about Jeremiah and Kurdy? What do you think their roles in the new regime would have been? Assuming, of course, that we all agree that the war would have been stopped by Sims death and the truth coming out about Daniel. Even so, would the Western Alliance have had to go East to root out the rest of the Eastern forces?

After exposing "Daniel", my guess is that they would have no choice but to go East. Just think about it. There would be pockets of leftover Eastern forces in place trying to rally back together, and if they just let them sit there they would pose a potential threat in the long run. Also, the Eastern Alliance was HUGE and that sorta infastructure dosen't just go away over night. I'd gues that they would try to keep as much of that infastructure together, all while convincing the people that they are not just another Daniel type regiem.

I'd gues J&K would have just helped Markus in that regard, although Jeremiah does seam like he wants to settle down, forces around him, I think, would have kept him going. Also, after what happened with Libby, it would probably be a while before he trusted somebody on that level again.

After that, the Alliance would probably face expansion problems, and would be focused on fixing whatever problems might arrise before they expand again.

But with unkowns to the North, South, and overseas, the possibilties after that are really endless, which I think was one of the really strong points of the show; it was limited by imagination, and really nothing else (except MGM )

Good point. I would have to suspect that, while large, much of the Eastern Alliance structure was less scrictly governed than the main strongholds. Probably the most 'secure' areas would have been near the military bases we saw them reactivating. Still, the Western Alliance did take away their leader and was honor-bound to try to fill that vaccuum.

Agreed. My feeling that J & K might have ended up partners again, if only for a short time. Or not...what about Smith? Or for that matter, maybe they'd all split up. Jeremiah as explorer/intelligence, Kurdy as head of military organization and Smith as historian/educator. Lee Chen would probably work his way back up to 'Cabinet' level. What jobs for Erin and Theo?

Well, I guess MGM doesn't really exist anymore, does it? Hopefully the ones responsible for the meddling won't be allowed anywhere near anything creative again.
