  • Jeremiah is it worth paying to watch?

    Hi there folks,

I've not had access to broadcast television for coming up for three years now.

This is because television in the UK is on the whole rubbish these days.

I watch DVD's and videos through my computer monitor and frankly I'm amazed how liberating it is to choose what I watch and when (without adverts) and then get on with something else.

Because of my (some might say 'odd') lifestyle I've yet to see even one episode of Jeremiah. So I'm wondering if JMS fans would recommend I buy it when it eventually comes out on dvd?
I have the wings for Bingo.

Season One is out (Region 1 at least) and I do recommend it...with slight reservations. There are some hugely powerful and great episodes in Season 1 but it *is* still a first season and has rocky spots.

I can't wait for Season 2 to come out (assuming it does).

      Many thanks Jan,

I remember catching a few episodes of season 1 of B5 'INFECTION" and 'TKO' I think, and desciding that B5 wasn't really worth watching. (Wrong! Doh!)
After getting into it during Season 2 (still my favourate) I revisited Season1 and thankfully saw the better episodes.

First seasons are so important to gripping an audience but sadly they are also, usually, a testing ground for the production team, (figuring out what works and where it goes) Not a winning combination of qualities sometimes.

Has Jeremiah yet had episodes on par with the better B5 ones? (not Grey 17 Is Missing, Something I will have to try to forget when I read the title of the series)
I have the wings for Bingo.

As in every series there are good episodes and bad ones. But, the first season was like a mystery that was solved at the end of the season. So you have to watch all of the episodes and enjoy watching the pieces fall into place.

Absolutely! Jeremiah was JMS without the constraints of network/syndicated TV. The dialog he wrote for the character of Kurdy is often better than the best he wrote for Ivanova.

None of the episodes are bad. The S1 episodes written by Sam Egan seem a little weak to me but that's in comparison to JMS.

Hmm...to answer this question I just reviewed the S1 episode list at
Jeremiah episode list at the Abbys
and I take back my reservations. If you have the chance, even if S2 never comes out on DVD, buy this one.

I shall just have to keep my fingers crossed for a region 2 release.

(Or nag the significant udder into getting a multi region player.)

              Which ones were those again?

I got the chance to see some of the season 2 episodes. Really. Good. Stuff. I would love to see them come out on DVD. Any idea about the sales numbers for the season 1 set?

Egan wrote about half of the Season 1 episodes. The weakest to me were probably "The Bag" and "The Touch". The were okay, mind, just more obvious than I think JMS would have been.

Now the strongest S1 episodes..."Man of Iron, Woman Under Glass", "...And the Ground, Sown with Salt" I think are right up there in quality and emotional impact with the best of B5. Then there's Samm Barne's episode "A Means to an End" that has one of the falling-down funniest scenes I've ever seen.

"Man of Iron, Woman Under Glass" had me crying when Jeremiah and Kurty saw the little kid taking the place of the "super hero". Very touching stuff.

Yeah, it was. Same for Iron Man's farewell to his sister. The scene where Jeremiah cursed out God was powerful, too.

In-joke in that episode. When they showed the comic, it had the "Joe's Comics" logo on the cover.

Which episodes from S2 did you get to see?

BTW, I just noticed where you're 'from'. Do you use the same transport mechanism JMS does?

Yeah an excellent episode all around. Especially for so early in a series

Yeah I do, but Benedict (my last name) is a hell of a lot easier to say backwards than Straczynski

I would pay for shows by JMS no matter what.

I have seen about all the jeremiah.

Down here they just keep changing days, times and channels making it hard to keep up with it.

I will eventually buy all his dvds out to watch at my leisure.
