  • Does anyone re-watch the show? How do you feel about it some years down the line?

I am curious how you feel about this show long term and if you re-watch the show in the same way many of us re-watch B5 every few years.

I re-watched Season 1 before S2 premiered, and quite enjoyed doing that. But, i have never felt the need to go back to the series as a whole, or S2 + the concluding film. I guess I felt a lot of potential was squandered and it never quite lived up to my expectations. The concluding film was probably the nail in the coffin to me as it leant too heavily into action scenes and lots of killing. The highly evolved sensates are all too happy to gun down countless 'bad guys' in the finale, and it all just seemed to dissolve into low level hollywood stupidity by the end.

ANYWAY, I won't rant too much about my own disappointment... So, main point: Do you folks go back to it a regular basis for a rewatch... and how do you view it some years on?

A classic? A missed opportunity? A tragically cancelled show? A flawed masterpiece? A confused mess by the end?

Captain John Sheridan: I really *hate* it when you do that.

I've re-watched season one a couple of times and enjoyed it a lot. Episode 10 (the one with the birth scenes) is my favorite for intensity. I agree that the there was too much willingness to kill among Sensates and that always puzzled me.

TBH, I wish that JMS had been more involved with the filming of season two, as he was with season one. Yeah, we all know I'm a JMS fangirls but I just cringed every time I read about Lana changing things *in the middle of filming*! That just doesn't seem fair to the actors at all.

My assessment: Season one, Very good to Great. Season two, Good with flashes of Very good. Movie, didn't do anything for me.

This is my experience too. I think the show felt very measured and logical in how it was set up in S1, with some mysteries being seeded. And then it slowly unravelled as it went on. It's a shame JMS had to step away (for whatever reasons). Bit of improv is fine, but if it changed narrative threads, I can see that driving JMS mad.

The show had a really tight internal logic in S1 with regards the Sensates, and that a lot of that logic evaporated in S2 and the film. I always felt they were far more vulnerable than the show thinks they are, and that should have come back to bite them in the ass at some point.

Only other thing that bugged me a bit was the painfully on the nose social commentary. The show was super progressive, and that's excellent in my book, but it was sometimes so cringy in its simplicity and a bit black and white for my tastes. B5 always dealt in shades of black and white, which was it's real strong suit.

I really wanted Whispers to be a more fleshed out believable villain with motives that were less silly. Other than, you know, he's INSANE and wants to be immortal. LOLZ.

I love Lana Wachowski but the finale kind of killed the show for me. It's just too unreal, and doesn't seem to match the show except superficially.
