  • Is What The Hell Happened happening?

Does anyone have any word on book two of, Crusade: What the Hell Happened? It's been a couple of years since anyone posted any info. Some speculation last year. Has he given up?

I think it was definitely still in the works, but perhaps contact B5 Books directly for an update.

I wish we knew. I can think of quite a few things that would have caused substantial delay, not the least of which was probably JMS' eye issues for several years (all better now, in case you hadn't heard) when he struggled to maintain his output. And naturally writing the larger money projects should take precedence for any professional writer.

That said, I wish that if it's going to be done or not were made more clear.

To their credit, I'm sure that Captain Jaclyn & B5 Books could have pumped out the rest of the scripts with no trouble. But my main interest has always been JMS' commentary and in the case of Crusade, more information on what happened behind the scenes - to the extent it's practical for him to share. So while I'm content to wait if the rest is confirmed to come out, I'm really not holding my breath - or any actual hope.

Thanks for the replies. I don't know what to think.

I think I'll keep holding my breath.

Yeah, I ended up selling my Crusade script books. Even the existing volumes, I felt the information was stretched and repeated a tad to flesh out the books. I tend to think it could have been better edited and released as fewer volumes.

Then again, I have to admit I am not one for minute detail and numerous iterations and drafts of scripts or pitch documents. Probably just me. I always love the JMS intros and narrative. but that's usually 1/8th of the book at best.

I'd love to hear those promised audio dramas though. I really hope you can buy them as a download when and if the books finally surface.

That is no joke. I don't even really care much about the book; just give me the audio dramas. Wouldn't it be wonderful if JMS could finish Crusade with audio dramas, or a show, or a movie, or a book, or a comic, or a series of posts in this forum, or a fireside chat, or in an email to me, or at a minimum calling me up and telling me over the phone?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Audiodramas would be great. JMS should take some inspiration of the Dr Who-folks who have a huge business with such things. Then again Dr Who might have a larger fanbase.

I understand that Big Finish - who make the Doctor Who audios - did approach Warners about getting a licence to make some B5 stories a couple of years ago, but the costs were prohibitive.

That was my understanding as well. It has been quite a while, so maybe costs are less. We should continue asking ...

A few years back another audio group did a story based on Fiona Avery’s script for the unfilmed Crusade episode, “Value Judgements”. She even provided some additional dialog for the production, then it was pulled from their site at some point.

It’s called Devel’s Deal and can be found, and played/downloaded, from the wayback machine.

I suppose the fanbase of Dr Franklin was much bigger.
