  • Latest B5 Books Newsletter

From the latest B5 Books newsletter, some more info on the forthcoming new book with a rather funky 'great machine' cover (you can vote for your fav colour scheme)…

“In our last newsletter, we announced the working title of the upcoming book (which has now changed) as "Intelligence from the Great Machine." We asked you to guess the contents, and below are some of our favorite responses. Is one of these correct? Find out next Wednesday, April 9”.

•The communication between Warner Brothers and JMS and crew during production / negotiations for renewal each season...
•The contents of the book will be notes JMS received from the studio and higher ups on what they wanted to see from the show.
•I think "Intelligence from the Great Machine" is going to be talking about all of the studio politics surrounding Babylon 5 and Crusade. I think "great machine" is referring to the bureaucracy, and "intelligence" is referring to all of the information we've been able to discover, both during and after the fact.
•All the back story Epsilon 3, the planet below the B5 station.
•A collection of the medical scannings of the brain patterns of all Babylon 5 cast and crew from 1993 to yesterday morning.
•The thoughts of the living ships as interpreted by humans...
•Some behind-the-scenes from Netter Digital, Foundation Imaging, and the other CGI-related companies about how the CG was created and then evolved over the series, from the point of view of those artists.
•Who made it, why it is on that planet, where the Tribe of Zathras came from and where all that tech from 1,000 years ago originated that turned up in "Crusade" and has been sporadically mentioned in B5.
•A compendium of Fiona Avery's responses as the Great Machine from the original Titan Babylon 5 monthly magazine.
•Zathras takes over publishing and puts out "The wisdom of Zathras as told to him by the Great Machine". There will be two options - regular and deluxe. Regular is an unfolded tri-fold pamphlet. Deluxe the pamphlet is folded (costs 30% more due to labor of folding).
•The amusing places Draal leaves his body when he forgets where it is.
•The complete list of thing Draal told Zathras not to say, to avoid polluting the timeline
•The list of things Zathras knows (knew?) that Draal does not...
•The great thoughts Zathras was thinking while he looked for the One.
•The complete histories of all 10 Zathrases (Zathrathi?), not just the quiet one.
•The details of Zathras' crisis management training.
•The best ways to avoid distracting Draal, to avoid much dying.
•I have a feeling the content will be 42 wonderfully reasoned answers to all the questions that the universe has to offer...
•Either some kind of tech manual - and how it was tried to make the show scientifically as acurate as possible - or a behind-the scenes book about set-building, costume designing, creating CGI and so on.

What DO YOU THINK? Perhaps an Echoes / Artifacts / behind the scenes style book?
Captain John Sheridan: I really *hate* it when you do that.

    Kosh: Good!

And the real question is...which cover did you vote for??

Missed the newsletter announcement of a week ago as I was on vacation and still haven't caught up on email. Glad to see this new announcement just now.

Ordered, primarily becuase I want the CD.

Naturally, I ordered purple because.. in purple I'm stunning.

Many have said it before, but it can't be said to enough, war is hell. "

Just in case people didn't see the new latest newsletter of April 14th, the discount is ending on the 16th (no shocker there) and it is your last chance to order the Centauri Purple Cover. (I believe I read somewhere that it was meant to be Centauri Purple.) Apparently they didn't sell too well so they lose the battle and are the cover that is being discontinued. So if, like Phaze and Londo, you are stunning in Purple you had better order now.

Can't decide if I want this book or not!

It looks cool, and is definitely of interest, but I'm unsure how many interviews with JMS I really need. I worry that a lot of the information will cover things I already know, albeit in a slightly different way, or from another angle.

Hmm. Must ruminate on this one for a bit.

The MIT speach has a fair number of stories that JMS had never told before, if that's any help. I'm going to enjoy having the transcripts.

I figure you probably wrote most of th aforesaid transcripts...

props btw as I know from experience that transcribing is a serious pain in the proverbial, awaiting my own copy, in centari purple, naturally.

So DHL fail, apparently my book has been sitting in "des plains, Illinois" since April 21st, last time this happened it showed up as delivered three days AFTER it arrived at my home in the west of Ireland. I can accept it taking a week to get to the Finnish lands but some indication of which country it was near right now would be useful.

Please note this is not in any way a criticism of Cafe press or Capt. JAcyln (who I finally ahd the delight of meeting last year at PHCC.) rather I ma just having a moan at the parochialism of DHL who would doubtless have it tracked to the meter within the continental USA.

Sorry to see you've had trouble posting Pascalahad! It's a glitch that DougO and vBulletin have been trying to fix for some time. Best thing to do is copy your post before submitting and then if it glitches, you won't have lost it. I know it's frustrating, sorry!

DHL's tracking seems to be lacking at the best of times, Phaze. Not sure if it's because they just don't do every-point tracking or if they just suck, but it's a common complaint.
