  • Crusade: What the Hell Happened?

The obvious question. Anyone know what happened to Crusade: What the Hell Happened?

Wish we knew. My impression has been that it's mainly JMS being insanely busy but I'm sure Captain Jaclyn will let us know as soon as she knows anything.

New alert from B5Books.com with two announcements:
WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED?, Volume 2 is planned for release after the re-launch of B5books.com.

          J. Michael Straczynski, being painfully aware of the lag in the CRUSADE book release schedule, is putting together a "thank you for your patience" bonus that makes it worth the wait: he's producing his two unfilmed CRUSADE episodes as audio dramas with "voices the fans are familiar with." The audio drama episodes are "To the Ends of the Earth" and "The End of the Line".

Since neither of these unproduced scripts are in Volume 2, one CD will be included FREE with Volume 3 of WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED? and the other CD FREE with Volume 4.
and not script book related but in the same email:

B5-20, our release honoring the 20th Anniversary of BABYLON 5, will be released in June instead of April.
Very excited about the audio drama news!

That is very very cool. I wonder if more Crusade could be produced that way? Which gets me wondering, is there a rights issue there at all? Or does that just apply to TV?

Did anybody else hear the Hallelujah chorus as they read Alert #1, or was that just my imagination?

Wonder who the voices will be. I HOPE, HOPE, HOPE he got Gary Cole to do the voice of Capt. Gideon. [fingers crossed] Gary has done some voice work. Actually, I hope JMS can manage to get the whole cast to do their roles for the audio dramas.

Well thats very exciting news... but... i wasn't planning on buying the crusade books. Again just can't get everything... but now i really want the audio books. Any chance of those being sold separately?

Very curious what B5-20 is all about as well... not that i have any money for that either. :P

I would imagine that JMS got what permission he needed from WB. As for new Crusade, I wouldn't count on it. A couple of audio disks for a relatively small audience is one thing. New material for WBs property would be a very different story.

I think we all know that something like that would be *awfully* expensive so let's not hold our breath for that much. But I'll be very interested to hear who ends up bringing these to life.

Milkman, since this is a premium that JMS is giving to the fans as an apology for the wait, I doubt the disks will be available separately except perhaps on the secondary market. And remember, it's an audio drama of the scripts, not the entire book as an audio book.

Something tells me we might have a good chance of Peter Woodward making an appearance. Pure speculation of course, but it seems likely. His voice would lend itself very well to an audio dramatisation.

Awfully expensive, for just voice work? Who knows what's involved though, certainly not me. If everybody were in LA, it'd be easier, but DDK's in Hawaii on H50v2.

I don't know any more about rates for voice work than I do for live action but my impression is that acting is acting so it's probably not much less expensive to hire somebody for voice acting as it would be for a TV show.

Oh... I'm very excited about the oportunity to listen to these audio disks and I must confess the thought of the possibility for even more Crusades via this medium came to mind as well. I know its unlikely... but Crusades is a story I'd LOVE to see told... in any format. Though I'm in the same boat with Jeremiah...

Remember that with voice work there is a lot less time invested by the actors. There is no make-up. They might just be able to do their piece in one reading and that's it.

For TV an episode usually took an actor's time for most of a week and long hours.
