  • Jason Davis and Jan on The Babylon Podcast with Script Book News

Jan and Jason were on the Babylon Podcast to talk about the TV Movie script book that is now shipping.

    A few points of interest.

Jason Davis (The editor of the TV Movie Script book) got to know jms through doing a few interviews with him, as well as having a picture of jms that jms wanted for himself.

The Crusade material will only be published after all the Babylon 5 material has been exhausted.

A series of new script books will be released starting in March. It is said to be something we didn't know about, but always wanted. The total number was not given, other than it being more than one.

As always the scripts team was a lot of fun, and frustratingly tight lipped all at the same time.

Well worth a listen. It should be out on or about 2/11/09

Yeah, well, the rent is cheap, the pay is decent and I get to make my own hours.

Thanks for the heads-up. And I so need an alarm clock that automatically takes into consideration the time difference - I always forget to set my alarm when I go to bed Wednesday night.

        This is annoying. Ugh.

Oh, not the information ... but that they're finally doing live shows again, and it's up against Lost.

          That should read:

Starting in March there will be a new book will coming out every month. These books are something you never knew you wanted but you'll have to have.

Well, with the TV Scriptbook out, Crusade Scriptbooks should be next.

What?!?!?! B5 Scriptbooks??? Another delay of the Crusade Scriptbooks??? If so, ARGH! JMS is EVIL!

I'll be over in the corner chewing rebar and blowing bubbles with the steel.

Uhm, if you say it's something "we never knew we wanted", does that imply it's not the Crusade books? But something else entirely? And I thought, now that the B5 TV movie script book was published, the B5 series had ended and my bank account could regenerate.

You guys really know how to make us curious

I can tell you that they're B5 related and that they're not the Crusade books.

There! Look! You actually got a straight reply out of me! Of course, a certain quote about replies and answers could apply here...

Hmm. As for exhausting B5 material before moving on to Crusade, I would have loved to see the B5 short stories collected, and maybe the JMS outlines for the canon novels. But that doesn't really fit Jan's corrected "never knew you wanted" since I'm sure many other people than myself knew they wanted those!

Colour me intrigued. I hope they're as great as you say Jan, because I too am eager to get hold of the Crusade books.

EDIT: Hmm. I may be looking into things too closely, but Jan didn't say a new script book would be coming out every month, just a new book. What if it's original fiction of some kind? Whether prose, or maybe even comic book stuff, fresh form JMS? Maybe using ideas he had for The Lost Tales before that was abandoned? Alternatively it could be some other kind of behind the scenes materials.

I wouldn't say Jason "got to know" JMS doing the interviews for Creative Screenwriting, but he did demonstrate a depth of knowledge about Straczynski's work and a certain skill set that Jaclyn Easton had been looking for.

In addition to what Jan said above, I can tell you that the second set of mysterious books mentioned last night on the podcast will contain significant Crusade content, but will not be the scripts, nor a continuation of the aborted narrative.

Well, even though our dear commander Ivanova loves mysteries, they just make me bite my nails down. I am definitely intrigued by the upcoming books. *hopes that time goes by faster until release*

Apologies to Jan for the name confusion, and to Jason for the descriptive errors.

I hope the announcement on the new books happens before the end of March.

I am happy to hear about additional books, I would have thought the well would be starting to run dry of the oooh and ahh stuff at this point.

One nagging question I am still having is a lack of understanding on why the hold on the Crusade books? Is there a production issue, or is it simply a marketing decision.

It's a contractual issue. B5 must be finished before Crusade can commence.

Thanks for that direct answer Jason.

Have the short stories ever been brought up as a possible option for reprinting? The cost of aquiring them is so prohibitive for most fans, I would hope jms could help out the fans yet again.

(I'm not holding you to anything more specific then the topic having been discussed, honest.)
