  • Just purchased #1 . . .

I couldn't bring myself to hit the post Christmas credit card with $400+ bucks to buy them all, I sure hope I'm not disappointed with #1, but with all of the "extras" I'm sure I won't be. It seems like the release dates are creeping further and further apart, so maybe if I buy one book per month I'll be caught up by issue 12 or 13.

I can't wait to check this out!

Let us know what you think, NSW. I love them and hope we'll get post-holiday news on when the next book will come out soon.

Just to make sure you're aware...this is a limited series. Not too long after volume 14 comes out, the books will all be pulled forever. It's great that the press of work has caused the releases to be spread out some for the people who really want to get them but couldn't do it at the rate they originally came out which was every 3 weeks or so.

I'm certainly ready for volume 10. I hope the powers that be (JMS and the scripts team) are listening.

I still need to get my butt around to reading most of them; I don't even remember which one I stopped on months on months ago now. I should be taking advantage of the lull in the release schedule to catch up!!

I actually just ordered #1 as well the other night with the New Year's Resolution of buying a new one each month to catch myself up as well Unless, of course, they near the end of the bunch, in which case I may have to expedite my purchasing efforts...

Now there's a New Year's Resolution I can relate to!

I'm definitely ready for Vol. 10. Is it done now and just waiting for people's wallets to get out of intensive care after the holidays? It seemed that way to me from the email but maybe that was wishful thinking

Hard to tell. Historically, JMS has done the introducions and commentary very shortly before the book has come out. From what he's said at conventions, my feeling is that he decides to write based on deadline so, since fans preferred to have this book after the holiday period, he may well have not written those as yet. Guess we'll find out more when the next newsletter comes out.

Hopefully I'll have a better paying job soon so I can buy them. At $39.99 a script is a bit steep for me right now. I would love to have Volume 15 which is only available to those who buy all the scripts and has the B5 version which has Sinclair in the entire series and he transforms into Valen at the end instead of the way it played out in the series.

On a similar but different note, are or were the scripts ever converted to a novel format like the TOS Star Trek scripts were about 30 years ago by James Blish (I think that was the writer)? If so, I would love to have those also.

No, they never have been. I still have the Blish books and I actually credit/blame them for my script addiction. There were often major differences between the books and what was seen onscreen but he'd mentioned using actual scripts. After that I was interested in seeing what the process was and when B5 and JMS and Ebay came along, my interest was fixated.

On the other hand, JMS *did* publish a book of his Twilight Zone scripts converted to story form.

Thanks Jan, hopefully the powers-that-be will consider it in the future.

Well, whoever owns the rights to The New Twilight Zone licensed a publisher to do an anthology and somebody comissioned JMS to adapt his own scripts in prose form. JMS could not legally have done that and published the stories himself, because he only has publication rights to his scripts as scripts. The right to adapt the script to another medium remains with the studio, so they would have had to set the project in motion or accept a project proposed by a publisher, and JMS would have adapted his own scripts as work for hire.

You're right of course, Joe. I should know better than to use verbal shortcuts like that.

Actually, not trying to pick a nit (for once), just trying to head off the inevitable "then why doesn't he..."

                              "...finish Crusade"
                              "...publish the short stories"
                              "...do some other damned thing"

Questions like that were likely to follow the statement as posted. Yeah, most of us knew what you meant, but these rights issues can be pretty esoteric for people who don't have an unhealthy fixation on certain TV shows, and the natural question would be, "If he could do it for Twilight Zone..."
