Script Book # 5 - SPOILERS

Having now re-learned to use the 'Refresh' feature, I've discovered that the Volume #5 Detailed Description is now up...and there's something extra in this volume. What, you want I should tell you? Bitter sweet so far. Still very funny in spots, but the few times he touches on Andreas Katsulas' death and the fact that he can't write more about it yet, shows the tip of what must be deep sorrow.

Just got the book today and chewed through the intros really quickly. The memos were very interesting, too, in that it really illustrates the amount of pre-planning involved in each season. I mean, it's all very well for him to say "I let all of the department heads know what needed to be planned for at the beginning of the season" and another to actually see the memo and be able to point to the episodes he was referring to before they were ever even written. Very cool.

More after I read the intros again...a little slower, this time. Anybody else have theirs? Comments?

So who's read the original draft of "Matters of Honor" yet? Any thoughts on the characters of Drake and LeGrande? I liked them okay but I *hated* the idea of all the sweetness-and-light recordings and posters. Maybe it would have worked...after all the Nightwatch posters weren't overly obtrusive and they were nicely ominous.

I also wasn't very sold on the idea of where Drake ended up going and how it was done but I may just have been missing Garibaldi saying the he never gets involved in his own life. I liked how it worked and why *much* better when it was 'Arthur' going off to the Narn homeworld to help them, probably because 'Arthur' had a relationship established with G'Kar by the end of that episode.

At any rate, it was interesting to see how the parts I recognized and the new/original bits wove together. And the typo on the first page where JMS typed Sheridan's name instead of Garibaldi's.

I have to say I really enjoyed this one, Other than its getting very preachy in parts. I know JMS will never support a Republican, but I have to wonder if he would feel the same way if Gore or Kerry were in the White house.

I contributed to the McCain campaign, in a fairly large amount. I would've been happy with him or Gore in the white house. Both are men of strong convictions and intellect who have dedicated their lives to public service.

"Gore or McCain" Yes exactly and if he had to chose jms would have voted for Gore. I'm as strong republican as you find, but even I voted in the Democratic Primary. Sometimes you wants more chooses that doesn't mean you will act on them. Granted in fairness it doesn't mean you won't. I still stand by my option.

I was surprised (no not because Jan is a laten teep I knew that already) my copy of Volumn 5 was waiting for me at home. That is the shortest time it has taken to get here and a most pleased. I guess I'm not going to do what I wanted to do this weekend.

I didn't get my copy until Friday (and have only read the prefaces, The Fall of Night and Matters of Honor (original draft). But, I wanted to say something about page 33, though (and I'll do it in double-super-secret-mode).

I was plowing my way through this chapter (talking about Convictions). JMS has just gotten through relating how Mike Vejar was his favorite director and how he had an almost supernatural insight into exactly how JMS envisioned a scene. And then JMS relates how he hates the "enemies trapped in the elevator" trope. And then he sets the stage for how Andreas thought to play it (most decidedly not as written). And in the middle of causing everyone to, in their mind, play out that scene and imagine the entire crew silently laughing tils tears roll down their faces, then, and only then, does JMS acknowlede that Andreas, and G'Kar, is gone. I don't know what JMS will say when he does say more, but I thought that this page was a magnificent tribute to Andreas's skill and insight into the character of G'Kar. Timing, they say in the business, is everything, and even in the depths of his obvious sadness, JMS knocked one out of the ballpark. In one page, he has filled us all with the presence of Andreas in the role of G'Kar and then filled us with the absence we feel at his passing. While the laughter is still in our ears, the tears roll down our faces.

Who would have thought a TV show could affect us so deeply...

Typos

The top lines in my copy all say "Passing through Gethsemene".
Is there a way to let CafÚpress know this so it can be corrected?
I'm a bit allergic to this kind of mistake.

Actually, it would seem that this is an error/typo that JMS made in his first draft of the script and that's the draft that's in this book. They're not making corrections to typos in the scripts themselves, I've noticed. If JMS typo-ed 11 or 12 years ago, we all see it.

I just did a quick check and it's typed the same way in the title over the Teaser as well as in scene 27 (page 19 of the script in the book) when Edward tells Delenn and Lennier the story of Jesus waiting in the garden. But it's NOT spelled that way in my copy of the script which is the shooting script or in the script book on the Title Page before the script proper starts. The chess game changes from Sheridan's office to the Zen Garden in between drafts, too.

Edit: Okay, I looked still again and maybe it's something that should be pointed out to them using the feedback form here. The reason is that the top line on the script pages in the book isn't exactly as it is on the real scripts. On the actual script pages, the episode number, a short version of the episode title, the color revision and revision date are shown. For instance:

#305 "PASSING" BLUE REVISED FINAL 9/6/95

So that top line is a *new* typo (albeit one probably taken directly from the script version they had) and they should probably correct the download if that's possible.
