Once people start seeing it, I bet this space will really heat up! I could post some spoilers here now, but I really don't want to spoil anyone even if they think they don't mind being spoiled. Can't wait to hear people's reactions, though! I'll be checking back.
"That was the law, as set down by Valen. Three castes: worker, religious, warrior."
They were giving out free tickets to the advanced screenings earlier this week on the condition that you would review it on your blog. Sadly, I was travelling this week on business and missed both the day here in NYC and the day in Boston (where I was for business).
I thought it was a pretty cool marketing idea and a great way to create some buzz.
I've read the novelization, and the official movie magazine, so I know the spoilers. I can't wait to see it on the screen.
BTW, the writer in the novelization captured the characters about as good as anyone I have seen, just about as good as Peter David captured Londo!
The writer, Keith R. A. DeCandido, gave out 50 copies of the novelization at Dragon*Con (I was #8 in line!). If you enjoyed it, I would suggest also checking out the book Finding Serenity, a collection of essays regarding Firefly, by Science Fiction writers. It's by Ben Bella publishers, and they've also put out essay collections on Buffy and Angel; coming soon are ones on Superman and King Kong, among others.
I'm just waiting for the B5 volume.

Well, it looks like I only get to partially pat myself on the back for predicting something of the reavers' origin. Not that it was all that hard. My margin of error made for a nice surprise, though.
On the deaths...
I liked how we got two kinds of death. One was the death where the dying gets to say someting sentimental and die with dignity. The other was an unexpected, spontaneous death; it happens in life.
The comedy was exceptional. Not often do I hear theater audiences laughing aloud at movies, even when something is pretty funny. The audience erupted numerous times tonight.
It was gratifying that Whedon left it wide open for a sequel or series renewal.
Tell me if I'm crazy...but during the Alliance/reaver battle, did anyone notice a reaver ship that resembled an astromech droid (like R2-D2) from Star Wars flash across the screen?
Recently, there was a reckoning. It occurred on November 4, 2014 across the United States. Voters, recognizing the failures of the current leadership and fearing their unchecked abuses of power, elected another party as the new majority. This is a first step toward preventing more damage and undoing some of the damage already done. Hopefully, this is as much as will be required.
I thought I saw something like R2-D2 there . . . but I thought it was just a giant trash can
extremely predictable, including the deaths. Good shock effect. and the Humor was probably the Movies Finest Quality.
The dialouge, again, makes me want to scream, I still dont understand how, in 500 years do we adapt Chinese as apart of our main culture.
It was much better than the series, but then again, since all of this was taken from 1 and 1/2 seasons it seems to show how slow of a series this would be . . . but if the pace keeps up like this movie, it would probably be better a second time around and actually worth listening to
my rating 7 out of 10

In the end, Serenity was a lot of fun and a nice dose of sci-fi. . . . While the film probably isn't destined to blow audiences away, it's a solid enough big screen debut to hopefully convince Universal to crank out more. Firefly fans should really enjoy it and new fans should hopefully find it accessible enough to jump on board.
And I quite agree

Er... They (China) have the worlds best economy going

Everything is moving to ENGLISH . . . you can adapt Economy techniques . . . but language and culture? maybe slightly but nothing that major . . . and the whole damn world is overpopulated . . . I'd understand if there were more asian characters and people . . . but that was hardly the case. this subject is still besides the point

I just got home from seeing it. I laughed, I cried (only the tiniest bit but it counts) and I clapped.
I really rather expected a standard 'oops, the job we're doing went wrong and we're in a heap of trouble' sort of story and was pleasantly surprised to be wrong.
I think it was perfectly accessible to new people not familiar with the series and I've read at least one review that said that the movie sent him out to get the DVDs because he wanted more.
I'm sad at the people we've lost. I liked all three of them even though we'd only just met one.
Good movie. Go see it. I'm actually likely to see it again.
Will someone please explain Why Firefly can get a movie made and it didn't even get half a season in .Movie called Serenity comes out and makes it at number 2 on Friday at 3.9 I think they were according to the box office listings .So please explain the popluarity ?And a great series like B5 can get one movie on the big screen ?
Partly a matter of timing. B5 has been off the air a lot longer than Firefly. Other factors include Joss putting other work on the back burner to make this work and the fact that he already has/had a reputation in theatre movies that JMS doesn't.
As I've said before, I'm going to write a letter. I'm *not* going to try to organize a campaign but I'll let people know what and where in case they want to do the same.
I *want* to see the Station on the big screen. I want that a lot.
