  • BSG: Who else is a Cylon? (warning, spoilers)

    Previously on Battlestar Galactica:

"There are only 12 Cylon models."

    "I'm number six."

"How many more Cylons are in the fleet?"
    "Eight!"

OK. We have met six of the 12 Cylon models so far.

The first we met was Number Six/Shelly Godfrey. The second was Leoben, the Steve Buschemi looking "arms dealer" on the Ragnar Station, who had another avatar captured (and spaced) in the episode "Flesh and Bone". The third was Aaron Doral, the press type in the miniseries who was left on Ragnar, and was later a suicide bomber in "Litmus". The fourth was Sharon Valerii/Boomer. The fifth was Simon, the doctor in "The Farm". And, alas, the sixth was D'anna Biers, the Lucy Lawless reporter in "Final Cut".

Who else is a Cylon? There are (at least) six more models out there. Since we have been told (how true is it, dunno) that there are eight more Cylons in the fleet, we can assume that they don't know yet about the Simon model, we are relatively sure they don't know the D'anna model, and they don't know about the six models we don't know either.

I am fairly certain that at least one of the regulars or semi-regulars is going to prove to be Cylon. It would be the perfect hammer to drop at some point when things are going well, or even when they aren't.

FRAK! I didn't have enough choices to include two others I believe might be good candidates.

    Col. Saul Tigh.
    Ellen Tigh.

I'll put in my thoughts on likely candidates after a few responses!

I picked Lt. Gaeta. I like the character but he's been on the edges of too many situations that could have been disasterous, for instance the computer linking that caused the recent virus problems. Everybody blames Tigh but it was Gaeta's idea and implementation. Like Galactic Boomer at first, I'm sure he isn't aware of it if he is.

I originally thought that Ellen Tigh probably was but now I agree with the people who think she's just a manipulative bitch. <g>

        I'll second that.

I pick Lt. Gaeta because he has this almost to calm demeanor about him. Where everyone else seems to wig out at the drop of a hat, any hat.

        Delenn:On Minbar Three is sacred.

Technically speaking, there are now Seven Cylons that we Don't know of in the fleet. D'anna Biers is one of the eight.

My Vote is With Cally . . . personally maybe its just because I don't like her, but thats my vote

and why my vote didnt show up in the polls . . . you got me!

I call no-joy. None of those up there are it (although Gaeta was an intriguing notion).

There can really only be one more type of human Cylon model before they start overplaying the "shocking turncoat" card. Given that, I say it'll be someone introduced later.

Was tempted to pick Adama just for spite. And because it'd be the one thing I swear they couldn't do (which, by default, now becomes the one thing they WILL do...)

EDIT - Are we certain about Farm Doc Simon? Did we actually see two of those? I mighta missed the details in that ep, was too busy watching Starbuck.

Yes, we saw two. She killed one in her hospital room to get out, and then once she finally got outside she ran into another one at the bottom of some stairs.

I'm still not convinced that the twelve models doesn't include the mechanical variants as well as the human-like models. If that is the case, we've probably seen 3 sentient mechanicals -- centurians, fighters, and heavy transports -- so that would mean 3 models left to discover. So far as I can remember, they've only circulated pictures of Leoben and Doral, so even among the models we've "discovered" as the audience, there are still a lot that could be out there inconspicuously.

Also, food for thought -- Is Baltar's Six-in-the-Brain considered one of the eight? After all, it seems to be an independent sentience. At the very least it must imply a Six still in the fleet since if he just has a receiver, it seems unlikely that the broadcast is coming from outside the fleet since the Six watching the "Final Cut" seemed surprised to know Baby Boomer was still alive. What's in Baltar could be a full-fledged consciousness, too, which would be my guess. When Baltar was on Kobol he was still being visited by Six even though the majority of the fleet was too far away for regular conversation.

BTW - I don't think any of the above are Cylons. Maybe an outside chance for Gaeta or Dualla. I think Billy might be a possibility, though.

I wouldn't think so. The cylons hardly have a clue that she exists. He's just looney

aside from my hate of Cally, I too believe none of the main characters are Cylons. it seems that the Cylon models are new (actors) instead of re-occuring characters or rolls.

Ohhh, I don't think he's just looney. I think the cylons believed Baltar might be useful to them again, so Six did some work on him. Baltar's scan doesn't prove anything at all because we already know the Cylon technology isn't detectable by any equipment the fleet has with the exception of Baltar's detector. For me the real question is whether that presence is an individual consciousness or simply being relayed from the Cylon in question.

As far as the Cylons go, so far the creators/writers haven't introduced a Cylon without letting the audience know pretty quickly. Not that they couldn't change their methods, of course.

I agree. The audience is made aware of who is a cylon before anyone else knows/at the same time (ex. "Farm"). it's a good way to keep us thinking "how or when will galactica find out about them being a cylon?" but neither sharon nor any other cylon model has said anything or acted like they knew about Baltar's "toaster in his head". Six didn't tell him that D'anna Biers was a Cylon probably because it wasn't to his advantage. so No, I don't think he's "just" looney, but I do believe that the other cylons have no clue about him.

There is definitely a Six still in the fleet. She showed up to accuse Baltar of treason that one ep in season one, and was never captured afterwards. So make that 6 out of 8 cylons in the fleet we know nothing of.

If that's true, it implies Six is playing her own game. Has a rogue agenda of her own. Which wouldn't really suprise me, but at the same time, doesn't seem likely.
