Brock Peters has passed away today at his home, after battling pancreatic cancer.
Brock, of course, was Admiral Cartwright in Star Trek IV and Star Trek VI, then later earned a recurring role as Joseph Sisko, father of station commander Ben Sisko, on Star Trek: Deep Space 9.
Additionally, he was the voice of Darth Vader in the NPR production of Star Wars, years before his first Trek appearance, and was the Chief of Detectives in the science fiction classic Soylent Green.
He may be best remembered for his role as Tom Robinson, a black man falsely accused of raping a white girl in the classic To Kill a Mockingbird, which is where I first saw him, in an English class long ago.
Godspeed, Mr. Peters.
