So did your friend like it, too? And how did you react to 'Sleeping in Light'?
He loves it, and there have been weekends where we've watched 5,6 episodes in a row (although I do get a bit goggly eyed after 4 hours of B5)
As to sleeping in light, he hasn't specifically mentioned it, but I did choke up a bit at JMS's commentary - you could here the emotion in his voice and it was obviously a hard thng for him to watch
JMS always said that B5 fans were people of infiinite taste and sensibility. I prefer that over the usual 'nut' or 'freak' label. Though I just picked up a 'dogtag' at the convention I was at this past weekend that proclaims me a "SciFi Geek"
Be geeky and proud - I declare my tastes loudly - I'd do it from the rooftops but I'm not good with heights
Thanks for decloaking, Phazedout! Nice to meet you!
Ditto, it's hard to locate B5 fans in Ireland, maybe I'll put my geeky skills to good use and throw up a web page.

I'd invite some people over to my place to watch B5, but saying I have a 13 inch Sylvania with an adapter for the audio cables doesn't have that certain "ring" to it.

I *knew* your user name looked familar but just couldn't place it! Thanks for telling, I enjoyed that series.
Bab 5? I spotted season one on a drunken evening while idly surfing with a mate, decided "OK, I'll buy this one, you can buy season two, I'll buy season three, etc and we'd split the cost of season 5" result? Season one arrived, I watched, loved and changed my mind, I wanted it ALL! for me (have it now, seasons 1-5, Crusade and the movei box set) I'll even be buying legend of the rangers bad though it is, and I have it captured from sci-fi channel and burnt onto DVD but I want the original)

I'm a complete B5 nut, and am also currently collecting Stargate and alias on DVD.I've been tempted by links to the B5 station guide CD-ROM too, and am (slowly) working my way through JMS's audio commenteries on the Move box set (note, buy the region one version, that way you get all 5).

I'm on the lookout for any other B5 fans in Dublin, I've got a prety good TV/Home cinema set-up and would cheerfuly invite people round for watchings.

    Hello.

As per Jan's request I'm popping up, In answer to (some) of her questions

My Username comes from a contraction of book seven of series by piers Anthony ( The Blue adept series) - full book title is Phaze Doubt.

Well I think Ivanova is one of the most popular characters in the Babylon 5 universe and Lochley actually didn't get my interest, I think she isn't doing a totally bad job but in comparison to the other (true) B5 charas like Ivanova, G'kar, John Sheridan, Delenn etc. , she couldn't shine at all.

As for Ivanova I love to quote wikipedia
"For many, Babylon 5 was exemplified by the character of Commander Susan Ivanova, second in command of the Babylon 5 station. Ivanova, portrayed by Claudia Christian, avoided many of the cliches endemic to modern sci-fi television. She was tough, assertive and self-confident, while being cynical and playfully witty. Her character was complex and evolving, never taking the easy path of stereotype."

    I think that's so true.
Ivanova would also be the only conclusive choice of doing a show after 2281 with a former character.

I also think I never lived that much with a character like I did with Susan. There is that warm aura, that spirit that surrounds her...and you suffer and cheer with her. Astonishing character that JMS wrote and Claudia Christian adopted and extended...and portrayed breathtakingly in an unforgettable fashion.

    Hi, Griffin, thanks for posting!

Ever since I posted this thread, I've thought of a few places I've done the same thing-registered but not posted. I always meant to, but I like to read for a while before jumping in and somehow I just never did.

    Hi Jan and everybody else!

I like your initiative-mood in this matter, reminds me of myself!
Well I registered today and then find your thread here!

The problem you describe, that many many people register but never post anything is a vivid problem with forums in general. I think it's even more that way in forums about Babylon 5 because of what Reel 2 Reel describes. So that means for many people the topic is just too complex to discuss *muahaha*! That's why you are asking them even to write about other stuff...well...I think most forum users just want to read I know it sounds confusing...well lurkers as you say. You even can shout out "come here", still they don't do anything! They just want to read all the interesting stuff about B5...and don't have an own opinion !

What I hope for B5 would be a series telling us about the Rangers etc. after 2281...so Claudia Christian as Ranger One, some new rangers and aliens, Delenn and Garibaldi guest starring. I think that storyline could have much potential! Personally I think JMS has a plan and knows what he could and would do with that storyline...so I think he has already thought about asking CC etc.! I don't know if this will become reality, I mean we still have time - CC just turned 40 this month and as Ranger One in 2281 Ivanova would be 51 ! So let's keep our fingers crossed! I'm hoping to see the day come when a new series in the Babylon 5 is announced! And CC portraying Ivanova once again, that would be most gorgeous.

Grew up and stayed in Brooklyn.

Note: I love science fiction shows, reality is just too harsh, lol.

    Babylon 5 - The Complete Television Series (5-Pack) $376.49

    Quote from Amazon.com fan.
As a lover of sci-fi series, it's great to see such a saga sold as a set. The reality for the B5 connoisseur is that this isn't the Full Monty. You should also purchase "Babylon 5 - The Movie Collection" and the B5 spin-off "Crusade - The Complete Series". The reasons are indicated below in my recommended viewing order.

    1. Watch the B5 movie "The Gathering"
The Babylon 5 pilot movie The Gathering was originally broadcast in 1993 a full year ahead of the regular show.
    2. Season 1
    3. Season 2
    4. Season 3
    5. Watch Season 4 up to episode "The illusion of truth"
    6. Watch the B5 movie "Thirdspace"
    7. Season 4: continue with episodes 9-22
    8. Watch Season 5 up to episode "Objects at Rest"
    9. Watch the B5 movie "River of Souls"
    10. Watch the B5 movie "In the Beginning"
This is a prelude set 10 years before Babylon 5. Against the logic of the title, I would strongly recommend seeing it at this stage. Should one see it before Season 1, much of the suspense in the main series would be ruined.
    11. Watch the B5 movie "A Call to Arms"
This movie lays the groundwork for the spin-off TV series "Crusade".
    12. Season 5: watch final episode "Sleeping in light"
    13. Watch Crusade Series

The question which is debated in several other reviews is: Despite the release dates of the material produced, in what order should it be seen? In particular, if the viewer is a total new comer to the series. The above is an attempt to give some structure to great content so it is more enjoyable as a complete work.

PS - It is astounding that the Warner marketing dept. gives no official recommendation on how these products should be best enjoyed.

    Calling all Lurkers!

    Hey

Dunno about anyone else, but over the 5 or so years I've been online, I've found a lot of forums etc that I've found interesting enough to sign up for, then followed for a while... then something happens (like one of my kids eating the bit of paper with the username / password on it - honest! ), and you kinda move on to the next thing.....

Must confess though - I found this site thru looking for info about "Jeremiah" -although I always enjoyed B5, it, well, (brace yourself...) never really clicked with me like "Jeremiah" did - I've thought about buying the series (B5) on DVD for a while, and I think I will do that now, give it a well deserved second look (all I own at the moment is a 2 tape set with the 2 "objects..." episodes and "Sleeping in Light" from the last season)

Anyway, with a little luck I shall finally be returning home next week (working at sea for the last 8 weeks), so the kids and I will be taking a little trip to the store to trawl thru the shelves for the latest goodies..... (so if someone could please let the powers that be know I'd like to see "Jeremiah" season 2 on the shelf when i do go I'd be grateful, hehe!!! )
