  • Interesting trivia question!

there are six US flags on the moon, one for each US visit.

There is, in addition, a seventh flag, left by one of the missions. It is not a US flag.

    What flag is it?

Isofar as I can tell, you cannot google for the answer to this, but you are wlecome to try.

    Some hints:

    1. It is not the UN flag.

    2. It is there because of personal actions, not "official" ones (i.e. it is not there because NASA ordered it placed there).

    3. It was placed there by hand, not landed by some remote rocket or anything.

    4. It is an actual flag, not something made up for the mission. It was given to the one who placed it, and not by his family. Other copies of the flag are seen by people on earth every day.

    5. If you know who placed it, you know the flag placed and why it was placed on the moon.

    Enjoy the puzzle!
I believe that when we leave a place, part of it goes with us and part of us remains. Go anywhere in the station, when it is quiet, and just listen. After a while, you will hear the echoes of all our conversations, every thought and word we've exchanged. Long after we are gone .. our voices will linger in these walls for as long as this place remains. But I will admit .. that the part of me that is going .. will very much miss the part of you that is staying.

You are of course assuming that men have walked on the moon.

Well, if they haven't, then the trivia is about the "seventh faked flag on the moon."

I'd think it's a POW flag - most of those guys were former military, I believe. But I'd have no idea who put it there. I'm trying to think of other flags that might fit in, but my history of the actual astronauts is pretty thin. And you're right, can't Google it.

I'm just going to take a wild guess and say it's that christian flag. Maybe one of the guys who walked on the moon was christian, so they brought it along, placed it on there as a sign of their faith or something, and never made a big deal out of it.

              Flag?

Is it a Golf flag from a putting green?

They did play golf on the moon!

I think you have the most chance of being right so far. The Apollo 17 crew did indeed play golf on the moon.

Some good guesses, but none very close so far.

Hint #6; there was something unusual about the makeup of one of the crews - they all had something in common, and that lead to the flag being placed. It did NOT have to do with religion.

I finally got it. I can't believe I didn't get the first time. The crew of Apollo 15 all graduated from the University of Michigan. They placed a U of M flag on the moon

                          Interesting Trivia Question!

                          Hi

Found this article at the following site for the University of Michigan:

                          "Quote"

A popular myth floating around campus claims they also placed an "M" flag on the moon, but this rumor cannot be confirmed. The only confirmed University mementos on the moon are a certificate granting the moon an official University Alumni Association club and a crater named "Wolverine."

                          "Unquote"

I did find some extremely detailed sites concerning the space program via google, but no mention of the above made on any of them....

Maybe theres a conspiracy to hide the truth about the "M" flag huh?
