  • B5 and Baseball?

Usually I am loathe to pimp my own blog but I was writing something about the Pittsburgh Pirates and it kind of veered off with a B5 analogy,, I thought that it may be of some interest. So, if you can't sleep or are really bored during the day, feel free to visit.

    Nice. Cuban is the man.

I, too, hate the Red Sox. And the Yankees.

And Oakland is now 7 1/2 games from first place. After trading out several of their seasoned players for some promising rookies, they didn't expect to do well until 2006 at the earliest. Here's to beating their own predictions.
Recently, there was a reckoning. It occurred on November 4, 2014 across the United States. Voters, recognizing the failures of the current leadership and fearing their unchecked abuses of power, elected another party as the new majority. This is a first step toward preventing more damage and undoing some of the damage already done. Hopefully, this is as much as will be required.

I think it's an easy guess who my favorite team is.
      RIP Coach Larry Finch
Thank you Memphis Grizzlies for a great season.

That team with a glorified AAA park?

Heh. I really need to get back to Pittsburgh so I can take in a game at PNC Park. Everyone raves about how nice it is, too bad the team sucks.

Ideally I would like to see Cuban partner with another brilliant Pittsburgh native, Dennis Miller. This way if the team is bad, Miller can do stand up and distract the fans

Can I just ask you baseball afficionados a question.

As a Brit, one of the things I have never quite got my head around is how the league rankings are organised. Am I correct in assuming that the statement "Oakland is 7 1/2 games behind first place" means simply that Oakland has won 7 fewer and tied 1 fewer game than the team in first place.

Is it that simple, i.e. no points, just how many games a team has won/tied or lost during the season.

              TIA.

You're almost there. The half game means that one team has played one more or less game then the other. For example, if Oakland has a record of 3-1 and Seattle has a record of 2-1, Oakland is 1/2 game ahead of Seattle.

And there aren't ties in baseball.

I'd always thought that it might be rained out games that were going to be completed later, myself. My mother was a die-hard Cubs fan. I always smile when I see Willie's avatar. She'd have loved that.

Excluding the 2002 All-Star game, I think the last tie might have occured before lights were installed at the ballparks. I forget when exactly lights were first used, so it might be sometime in the 1910's or 1920's.

Those are just rainouts. Helps to have a retractable dome. If only each team without one would crank up the hot dog price from $7 to $9, maybe they could afford to have domes added on.

As I recall, just adding lights to Wrigley Field caused an uproar so I can just imagine what adding a dome to that venerably old stadium would do.
