Things to Ponder.....

I also get some help from my wife... and ... dare I say it?
She made me sit through several episodes of "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" and "What Not to Wear" which have also helped with my fashion sense (the latter more indirectly of course, as it rarely featured males). There, I dared say it.

Oh lordy, so I'm not the only one?

It's not that bad, I've used to be very conservative in my clothing, same basic drab colors always, I've been more adventurous, and found out that a dark bright red dress shirt (which was not one of the conservative colors I'd use before) does make me look good. But there are still suggestions by my wife that I wouldn't take.

For me, working at sea as I do on ships, I've inherited from my colleagues the "color blindness" where shirts are concerned (along with a deeply entrenched ability to find my way home no matter where I am or how drunk I get.... but thats another story... ) - so whenever I come home from faraway lands, I'm usually carrying some shirt with brightly colored parrots on it, or multicolored rugby shirts from british expat bars in the far east - all of which go into my side of the closet, and then whenever I put one on (in the vain hope that I'll be able to get away with wearing it to whatever family get-together we're going to... ) the usual response I get from my kids (my... how well my wife has trained them!) is "Daddy, are you going golfing?"

On another matter: kudos to the moderators for being "two more of the gang" and putting their moderator hats rarely and always pointing it out.
And kudos to the community for accepting that moderators sometimes have to put on the moderator hats but that other than those moments they are "just like everyone else." Elsewhere I've been people can't see moderators as anything else and don't leave them as much freedom to post without a moderator hat.

I'll second that - that's for sure - this is the first site that I've gone to where I end up laughing more than frowning at what I read in here. Everyone has a genuine passion about the things they write about, whether it's the shows we all love or the general stuff. And the fact that I've hardly ever seen any posts that have gained a "moderator headwear" type response speaks volumes in my opinion!

Right - now before I go getting all emotional, I'm off to iron my new shirt (it's navy blue with bright crimson flowers on it)

Thanks, Capt. Montoya. I think it helps that we were posters before we were moderators. And everybody here has been really supportive, too. Sure there are fusses and blow-ups but I think that trying to be kind to one another comes easy here.

I'd've *hated* it if my becoming moderator would have meant all the lovely conversations wouldn't happen anymore!

I can't speak for all the married guys posting on here, but the only reason my fashion sense is more co-ordinated in my "old age" is because my choices in clothing at the store are all approved by my wife before I can get them!

...still got the green and purple tree frog tie though... I'm saving it for my daughters weddings when theyre older...

On the other hand, now that we don't have cable I truly don't miss sitting through those shows.

Dressing nicely does not make me feel metrosexual... watching "Queer Eye" did.

Nope, no insult at all . I actually agree about the my kooky fashion sense. I recall a certain SP in the Grade 5 class picture wearing multi-coloured, knee high socks, with a jumper dress. Is it any wonder that green or purple bonnets seem okay?
