  • LOST - Mira Furlan Guest stars

    No spoilers in this post.

Just finished watching tonight's episode of Lost. Mira's character of Danielle had a bigger part this time but is still very much a mystery. All of the interractions of the characters in this one were great. The acting is top-notch.

After tonight, I'd be hard-pressed to choose a favorite character. I've been leaning toward Locke, but Sawyer is coming up to the fore and Sayid is great, too.

Excellent show. Can't wait for next week's 2-hour finale and more Mira/Danielle.

Danielle is really a mystery. And dangerous. As Locke noticed just briefly, even she hides many things. Crazy maybe, but very not stupid.

Now that "Black Rock" has been revealed - and I'm sad to say that yes, I got took completely, I was actually expecting a big black rock - I think we're starting to get more of an idea of what's up in that patch of nowhere. Not the whole picture. But surely the outline is coming together.

And you know there's no way that raft is getting anywhere. (Or, well, if it does, then Abrams is far cleverer than I give him credit for, and I give him a lot)

One thing I missed was the whole reference to "dark territory" or what not. Damn briefly mumbled lines.

This is a series that I have not been able to sink my teeth into because of time constraints (even with a tivo). Anyone care to give a quick synopsis?

Hmmm...that's what might be called a non-trivial assignment. Let's see....

Plane crashes on an island. Nobody knows why or where.

48 survivors including a doctor, a con man, a former Iraqui Republican Guard, a prisoner, an estranged father and son (with dog), a brother and sister, a millionaire, a Korean couple with marital and language challenges, a fading rock star, a pregnant lady and a collection manager for a box company.

Mysteries including missing corpses, radio transmissions, miracle cures, monster(s), a buried hatch, significant numbers and other inhabitants of the island.

Adventures including kidnapping, murder, illness and injury, addiction recovery, exploration, childbirth and the above mentioned monster, of course.

Backstories on all of the characters showing who they were before the crash, how they all seem intertwined somehow and why a fair number of the lostaways might not want to leave the island at all.

What makes it work seems to be the true ensemble cast, each of whom has a distintive look and personality, the skillful interweaving of backstory with present story and a good blend of adventure/character bits. The acting is superb imo.

        Good show.

I've only seen a couple episodes of Lost. Aside from catching Mira on it, the only other thing I know about the show is one character reminds me of the Captain from Gilligan's Island, in that despite being stranded on an island, they don't lose weight.

Not a bad synopsis, Jan. Pretty much spoiler free and conveys the essence well. Bravo! theBaron, if you really want a recap, the fine people behind "Lost" did one to try and bring new viewers up to date. It was called "Lost: The Journey" and was literally a recap rather than an episode in its own right. I thought I saw that there was going to be a rebroadcast of this, but I can't find where I saw that. "Lost" is on the schedule for ABC Saturday, the 21st at 8PM, but I don't know if it's a rebroadcast of The Journey or the season finale.

One thing to remember is that not much time passes from one episode to the next. My understanding is that only about 40 days passes per season. I like how you actually see effects of an injury gradually fade.

Thanks. Once I started writing, it got to be fun. I came to it late and thank heavens for the reruns. Except I missed most of last week's episode so I have to wait for that one to rerun.

So, anybody want to talk favorite character? Also remember that you can spoiler protect by [ spoiler ] (minus the spaces I added so it'd show) and end with [/spoiler].

I'm leaning toward Locke mainly because his mystery is the most fascinating for me. I want to know how (highlight to read)
he learned the skills he has for hunting and how he became paralysed and if/when it'll recur.
. Anyway, he seems to be a nice person.

That sounds about right since Locke said it was about 3 weeks since he and Boone made their discovery, and that was around episode 10. As far as Hurley losing weight, they actually have made reference to that a couple of times. I was actually thinking he looked like he had lost some, but even so it doesn't seem like anyone is really going hungry at this point even if they might be getting tired of fruit and fish.

It would be fun to talk, but maybe we should start a new spoiler thread for the people who've seen it so we don't have to keep carving up posts with spoiler tags. What do you think, oh Moderator?

BTW, it's hard not to like Locke for many reasons. It's also hard not to like Jin and Danielle, too, since they're like old friends. There's more to be seen in their stories, too, I'm sure. I'm rather partial to Sun, too. It really is a great ensemble.

                  All done!

Agreed. I'm amazed at how much I've come to like Jin's character considering that all the dialog is subtitled. I'll admit to a little skepticism at how competent Sun has been considering how sheltered she must have been but it's not a major thing.
