  • Star Trek: Enterprise - Going the Right Way?

The latest episode which was aired on 04.22.2005 was a perfect episode,i didn't and still don't like Enterprise, its very weak compared to the other Treks and to today's sci-fi which is fast action (Babylon 5,Farscape,Galactica...).

This latest episode which was called <In a Mirror, Darkly> isn't your usual Trek episode but imo was brilliantly done (even the opening credits!!!).

This is a 2 parter so probably after its done we will go back to the boring Enterprise, but if there is even a slight chance that the show will continue to go that way (ok i know that they can't be the bad guys),then they will sure get another vote from a disappointment fan (until now i just wanted this show to be over).

By far the best Enterprise episode to date!

    Edit:
You can even download the audio commentary for this episode from startrek.com

The only quuestion i have is,does anyone know who composed the openning credit score? that sh*t is amazing! ....ok never mind, they say his name at the end of the commentary

    Hi Ranger,

Are we actually talking about Enterprise as in the show that was cancelled?

      @ Towelmaster: yes

@ DougO: The Xindi arc story was ok as an arc,as a cliffhanger, but the result was so horrible.
And i agree,Archer's character doesnt work for me either,im not sure if its the character or the actor, too damn serious all the time.

This show had so much potential,it already had the history based on First Contact...
-this ship doesnt have shields and no matter how hard they get hit almost nothing happens.
-the transporters...oh boy, since they discovered the warp drive suddenly everything comes so easily.
-100 years before the original Trek, and this ship looks more futuristic then the original (i knew that would be a problem since they announce they will be making this show).

Gee thanks. We're up to Awakening at the moment in the UK, and these three episode arcs are working at present. The Soong one was pretty good.

Yes. In it's last year the writing to a turn for the better but nobody ( or hardly anybody ) was watching it any longer. The only reason I knew of the change was a frantic call from an old friend insisting that she was amazed at how much better it was this year. She was right but it was already to late for the series, it's fate was sealed by 3 really crappy years

Bragga and Berman stepped back and Manny Coto is show runner this year. If only he had been there from the beginning, it may have had a chance. His choice of stories are a lot more consistent with Star trek as a whole.

Yeah, up until the last episode of the series, which they just had to step in and ruin (I mean write). Yet another shiningly lackluster and mediocre moment in ST history.

I don't care if it's going the "right" way, as long as it goes "a" way.

The worst Star Trek finale ever!!!! SOME SPOILERS:

What a CRAPPY last episode, even crappier then DS9 (which is the show i most hate),and....wtf?!? where was Voyager (and DS9 but i care less for DS9)?
Even having such giants as Riker and Troy didn't help.

I don't wanna see any new Trek anytime soon, need to rest from this sad sad series: "Enterprise".

Well, the show is called Enterprise, so I assumed that the point was to only show ships named Enterprise in the ending montage.

                          ::sigh::

                          My $0.02:

And here I was expecting some good, intelligent commentary on a show that (while I've only seen seasons 1-2 and the last 5 eps of S4...and because it changed times, not because I didn't like it) had lots of promise, but was never given a proper chance not only by the producers and network, but by most of the fans as well. Enterprise was a helluva lot better than Voyager ever was. Stating that Archer was too serious all the time is like calling Picard a standup comedian. I do hope that JMS gets to work on the next incarnation like he has proposed. It is 1/2 of what the series needs to reinvigorate it. The other, is to get rid of Rick Berman and Brannon Braga. Since Voyager, they have done nothing but put out crap. Enterprise was mostly saved because their direct involvement was somewhat stifled... especially during S4.

I will admit that I did not like the finale like I wanted to. Making this episode fit into The Next Generation S7 episode "Pegasus" was cheap. Frakes and Sirtis are too old to portray their characters so long ago. It's been 13 years or so. Only cosmetic surgery and special effects could fix it. Also, the digital Enterprise-D did not have the same feel that the models did. Neither do the Constitution-class starships (i.e. Enterprise and Defiant (from "In The Mirror, Darkly")) I would have been much happier if this had taken place between Insurrection & Nemesis, or after the latter. While it was interesting seeing a different view of a Next Gen episode, this should have been about Enterprise.

My final issue is in regards to the length of the episode. Other than The Original Series, which did not have a finale, I think this is the only Trek show to not have a two-episode finale. That, I think, more than anything else, has me truly irritated. But, this is the first Trek I have purchased the DVDs for (I received TOS for Christmas, so I technically did not purchase them). And I intend to get all 4 seasons. Deep Space Nine, actually, is the only other one I am considering at this time, as it was my favorite, though not until after S4.

My final comment is in regards to the trouble Trek has in getting a series going. So far, every Trek from TNG to ENT has not gotten "really good" until the fourth season. TOS got canned after S3 (of a likely 5), so did not have this problem. I've heard this referred to as "Trekitis." I do not fully understand why this occurs, as I think many of the issues that cause this phenomenon should be worked out over the course of the first season, much like B5 did, though it was still shaky over most of S2, it got its "legs" much faster. (NOTE: this is in regards to production value, and is in no means an attack on B5 as it is my #1 show of all time) If another Trek is to succeed on TV, I would recommend either a Mirrorverse series, or something farther on in the future, as I think that the 22nd-24th centuries should be left behind for awhile. This may be the "fresh breath" that people are looking for. I also think that it needs to be arced, much more than Enterprise S4, though starting off that way would be a bonus. Manny Coto is definately someone Trek needs. JMS is another.

Right there with ya' bro'. I say so on the grounds that it gave space a bigger and mysterious feel again, in that space was unexplored and dangerous now. Which for the record, is in large part why I don't view DS9 as a Star Trek series. I thought DS9 was a fun and pretty Space Sci-Fi series at times, but doesn't the title Star Trek imply a trek through the stars? Granted the Dominion War gave some danger to space, but they where at the edge of a freakin' wormhole, go "seak out new life" and all that. They did that from time to time, but it was few and far between IMHO.

But that not with standing is I haven't seen symbolism or meaning in the newer Treks. In ST:TOS the whole Cold War between the Federation and the Klingons, mirrored the real NATO vs Warsaw Pact Cold War. The race that where black on the right and white on the left vs. the race that where on the right white and black on the left. And buckets of other things that took real balls at the time to put on TV. I mean a Black Woman working on the bridge of a Starship in the 60's? That took a heck of a lot of balls. Bravo Gene R. bravo.

And as vacantlook a Moderator at b5tv.com said:

One of the things I've grown weary of in regards to Trek is how the characters seem to have no personalities. The feel empty to me, or at least partial and unfilled in terms of a writer creating a character. On Voyager, I probably felt it the most in Ensign Kim. On Enterprise, the most would probably be the pilot guy whose name despite being a main character I can't remember. I want memorability put into the show again so that my investment in watching is paid off.
I feel like *they've* been beating a dead horse.
