He fought the Fascists. He beat the Communists. May he rest in peace.

I'm aware that almost everyone these days has access to 24 hour news channels - but just incase you haven't heard...

It has been confirmed by The Vatican that Pope John Paul II has died at 20:37 BST [time edited].

My wishes go out to everyone who has been touched by the tragic loss of one of our generations finest.

Although I'm not religious myself, I've seen some of the good work that Pope John Paul II did during his reign as the pontiff. May his passing become a sybol to a better and brighter new beginning.

    With respects
    Kris

That's the sort of black humor my family indulges in at sad times. It helps relieve stress and laughter can lead to tears that need to be shed.

I haven't had this on my newsfeeds yet. He's bad off, but I don't think he's dead.

    Not really funny, actually.

EDIT - Not dead yet anyway. He is fading fast. It will likely be sometime today.

"Michael Schiavo today announced that the Pope once told him he wouldnÆt want to be kept alive through artificial means."

"The ACLU is filing suit at the Vatican to ensure religious extremists do not get involved. "

At the moment, the Vatican seems to be denying it. I hope for everybody's sake that whatever happens, happens fairly quickly and peacefully.

    RIP - The Pope

Reuters and various Italian media are reporting the Pope has just passed away. CNN and other US news agencies are working to confirm.
Working...
