Dr Who & ST:TNG were the two shows that got me really into Scifi.. naturally, outside of something like Thundercats, Transformers, etc. when I was a kid. But watching those two "grown-up" shows really helped to expand my ability to think and reason, and I don't know where I would be today if it weren't for an early addiction to staying up late and watching Dr Who on PBS. (It usually aired after midnight on PBS when I was a kid (mid-80's)).
This begs the question: Which Doctor was your favorite? Mine, hands down, was Tom Baker.

Hey, it's not my fault, I'm just the writer!
Tom's my favourate too, I can just about remember Jon Petwee but he was the one I grew up with. The better half is a little older than I he remembers and prefers Pat Troughton.
Tom himself is a wonderful credit for what ever planet he came from. I loved the dead ringers radio show where he got a phone call from a guy impersonating him. His reaction and humour was spot on. It says something about the guy that when the same impersonator rang up Sylvester Mc Coy and and started acting 'odd' Mr Mc Coy was utterly convinced it was him.
"You alright Tom? Have you been down the pub?"
He is very good as the announcer on Little Britain too.

Something that I would love to see is the return of the surviving doctors (only doctors 4 - 8 are still alive?) in some form of cameo, similar to what has occurred on Smallville with the movie actors.

Apparently the writers considered putting the other doctors in but thought it might be a bit tacky and confusing. Tom Baker was the most dissapointed because he really really wanted to play The Master.
That would have been awesome! That's really too bad that they didn't roll with that idea. But, you know, you never know, if the series is a hit like I hope it is, and there is enough public interest in it, they just might do that. A Tom Baker Master would definately be cool. To escentially see a Doctor that we all know and love go bad would be the very thing that would make the new show for me.
I do feel that the worst doctor was the 6th, Colin Baker. What are your thoughts?
I think all the Doctors were good in their way, it was the scripts and production values that became disapointing. I have had the pleasure of seeing alot of Colin Baker stories recently and they are as good as any later Tom Baker ones. The Two Doctors, Mark Of the Rani, Revelation of The Daleks, all very good and Colin was OK. He tried to do something different while Michael Grade was cutting budgeys and John Nathen Turner was bringing his pantomime background to bare on the show to awful effect. I personally found Peter Davison era my least favourate as well as the awful early Silvester Mc Coy episodes. (though he got alot better)
God i love Dr Who but im not really sure about this new series!! first i really cant stand the bloke playing the doctor and Billy??!!!! what are they thinking???!!!!
I wish they would have given McGann another shot at it as i did like him in the movie!!
I'm keeping an open mind. When I first saw pictures of Eccleston dressed up in his Dr 'Bloke' outfit, I was not amused. And I was a bit worried by Billie Piper but she can act and she isn't Bonnie Langford. I also liked Paul Mcgann (though the film was total bobbins) and it's a real shame they couldn't at least of let him do a regeneration scene. But it might be good, it might be very good infact. I'm a veteran of the tv movie and The Phantom Menace so I've come not to expect to much from revivals of childhood icons. I think waiting and seeing is the best we can do.
