<<One rumor I've heard from my source is that it could be a linking series, showing the rise of Vader and the Emporer in the period between EPIII and EPIV.>>
Now that is something I DON'T want to see. I think they need to get away from the main characters and come up with some fresh ideas.
Doing an arc on the books in my sig would be great. Or the aforementioned Knights of the Old Republic era. Just something fresh, and something very un-Lucas.

ZHDD,
One rumor I've heard from my source is that it could be a linking series, showing the rise of Vader and the Emporer in the period between EPIII and EPIV.
If it's that and it's done very well, then I think it could be good...but I've lost a lot of hope and respect for SW lately. So ultimately it will depend on who GL gets to run it and how much control they have over it.
As for the question at hand:
STARGATES: SG-1 and ATLANTIS are both very good SF shows. As for BG, from what I'm hearing on the net, it's a very good show and is delivering and it hasn't even been released here yet, so it's got nowhere to go but up in the ratings. My guess is that it will do very well and be renewed without any problems, so I would recommend that one.
I'm not sure where you are, but if you're in the UK, then you have the added bonus of getting the new Dr. Who way before we will and for that one I envy you greatly. It has some great people behind it and I think it will be a huge hit.
ST has been ok this season, which is a million times better than the crap they were delving out weekly over the last several years...so there's some hope there.
But aside from that..I can't think of any great SF out there.
So, SG-1, ATLANTIS, BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, DR. WHO, and maybe ST. The rest is dung.
Oh, and if you've never seen FARSCAPE, I highly, highly recommend renting or buying the DVD's and watching it. It was one of the great SF shows IMO and very original. They just paid that one off with a great Mini-series to end the story...the next leap for them is the big screen.

For myself, I'm reluctant to start watching anything new, since all the shows I had started to like were axed, and it's too annoying to get into a show to find it cancelled a few episodes down the line.
I'm living off B5 and Quantum Leap DVDs at the moment.
What's the atmosphere like over in the States?
I just finished watching UFO Season Set 1. Other than that, I rewatch my B5 DVD sets, Crusade and Brimstone (both of which I transferred to DVD from SVHS).
As far as in-production shows are concerned, I'm watching:
Two and a Half Men
CSI-Miami
Navy N.C.I.S.
CSI-NY
CSI
I'll buy Battlestar Galactica (the new series) when it comes out on DVD.

With the new presidential administration, we might start getting Creation Science Fiction .
Good guys are doomed to be conquored by the Demonic Alien of the week.
But, at the last second, the Padre remembers an old prayer that will indice Haysus to Smite the DA and rescue the Pure of Heart.
