So, I started watching this one a while back as a 'turn brain off' SF show. It clearly wants to be Firefly really badly, but S1 had some charm here and there. I’ve just watched the first seven or so episodes of S2 on Netflix and have gradually warmed to it. The episode ‘I love Lucy’ had me laughing out loud at a few points. They’re also clearly setting up for a larger arc that will create a big bad of some sort. It’s nothing ground breaking, nor is it not particularly complex, but it’s a fun little show with some solid world building. It's a SyFy show, but looks safe from cancellation due to it's (obviously) low budget.

    Anyone else been watching?

I watched it in combination with Dark Matter, mostly because it had some spin offs in terms of actors and producers from the stargate franchises, indeed There was much nerd rage when Dark Matter was cancelled but killjoys was renewed fro another seasons (so there will be a third season). Season 2 definitely gets dark towards the end, so yeah there's some arc building.
Overall I think it's a fun show, doesn't take itself to seriously and I love the soundtrack, not really my kinda music solo but it sets the otne very well.

If you'd be interested in spinning up a little podcast about ti let me know, I'd happily get on board with you.
"There are no good wars. War is always the worst possible way to resolve differences. It degenerates and corrupts both sides to ever more sordid levels of existence, in their need to gain an advantage over the enemy. Those actively involved in combat are almost always damaged goods for the rest of their lives. If their bodies don't bear scars, their minds do, ofttimes both. Many have said it before, but it can't be said to enough, war is hell. "

I think it's absolutely freaking amazing. Yes, it's very stylized, but it has great characters, elaborate and intelligent worldbuilding, a proper arc, and some damn fine writing. And I personally adore the style.

I haven't been this excited about a sci-fi show in a long time.

It's definitely improved loads since the first season. It's gone from feeling like a Firefly clone to it's own thing, which it has built steadily. The world building is solid, it feels like it could be an RPG universe. It has that lower budget, fun vibe that shows like Lexx and Farscape had. They do well with what I take to be a fairly limited budget.

I loved the first season too. But it just has a flavour that I adore. I see the Firefly parallels, but I think in a lot of ways Farscape is a better reference point. It's much weirder, much sexier, much sharper than Firefly. (I do like Firefly very much as well!)
