God damn it!?! Is 2016 done yet!?!

Carrie Fisher achieved global fame as Princess Leia in Star Wars.
Captain John Sheridan: I really *hate* it when you do that.

    Kosh: Good!

I would say form a medical perspective it's possible she suffered oxygen deprabation andn effective brain death while still on the plane, they may have been keeping her alive artificually while they assesed her. I don't think it was a case of "dodged the bullett".
In fairness it may not be 2016s fault either. most of us are around a 10 year age gap between mid 70s and mid 70s, those we grew up watching were in their 20s and 30s in the 70s and 80s, 40 years ago, sadly average life expectancies don't exent much beyond mid 70s these days.

Just trying to offer an alternate persepctive here, not arguing, still a sucky year
"There are no good wars. War is always the worst possible way to resolve differences. It degenerates and corrupts both sides to ever more sordid levels of existence, in their need to gain an advantage over the enemy. Those actively involved in combat are almost always damaged goods for the rest of their lives. If their bodies don't bear scars, their minds do, ofttimes both. Many have said it before, but it can't be said to enough, war is hell. "
