Deadpool (spoilers hidden with tags)

I saw it this evening, opening night here and loved it.
I will say that while it wasn't exactly following the canon it was true tot he spirit of the character, I loved it dearly but, as ever, YMMV.

I was cringing at bit at the humour in the trailer. A lot of it would have appealed to 13 year old me, but much of it just seemed really silly. Obviously, that's the point, but the humour just did very little for me. Not sure there's much point in me seeing the full film!

I saw a cool graphic with Deadpool saying to the adults to NOT take their kids to see the movie and everybody would be happier with less offense taken and fewer awkward questions to answer. Thought that was a good idea.

What makes the film better than the trailers is that you actually have a love story to care about and villains to hate, so Deadpool's wisecracking has a context that makes it more effective. Not all of it works, but a lot does. Then again, I have a ridiculous sense of humour, so your mileage may vary.

If you're not super interested, watch it when it comes to Netflix.

I saw it Saturday and loved it, but it will definitely NOT be everyone's cup-of-tea. I think I should point out that this is the first Rated R movie I have seen in a long time that had a warning stating kids under 17 who were not with an adult would be asked to leave without a refund. I am pretty sure there were at least two boys in the audience who qualified for that warning as they appeared to sneak in, i.e. bought tickets to another movie and came into the Deadpool theater. Anyway a friend of mine pointed out that he hadn't seen that warning since Team America: World Police (2004). The point being that this movie really pushed the envelope of Rated R in more ways than one, so be warned.

Other than that it was tons of fun. As one person I know put it there were lots of times when he felt like, "Are we really going to go there?! We are?! Okay I'll close one eye." I was surprised how well they tied it to the X-Men movie Universe in a hilarious way.

Word is that it's the best opening for and R rated movie ever. A friend of mine posted that her wife got carded at the theater they went to - and she's 35!

Yeah, rumours are that it may be the most profitiable superhero movie full stop, because of it's small budget and massive opening weekend. Given that Deadpool is a bit of an internet fav, this is not surprising. Interesting article over at io9 suggesting that Fox may be rethinking their approach to superhero film big time!

I am curious to see it, but feel it will be one to see when it hits my Netflix.
