  • Galaxy Quest as a TV show?

By Grabthar’s Hammer! Galaxy Quest, the genius, underrated and ahead of its time scifi comedy is being developed into a TV show by Amazon. There’s no word on what direction they’re going with it, but the creative team remains the same.

The film’s co-writer Robert Gordon is writing the pilot and the film’s director Dean Parisot will direct. They’ll both executive produce, along with the original film’s producers, too. Once the pilot is done, Amazon will decide if they want to make more episodes

I think they are trying to ride off of Con-Man's successful crowdfunding campaign.

My initial reaction was to jump for joy. Then reality sank in that this will likely not be as good as I hope it will be. The key thing that HAS to happen is getting the entire cast back, which I don't think will really be too difficult. If they can do that and they have a good script this could be wonderful. Could be fun. It's a laugh riot of a film for SF fans.

IMDb currently lists this as a TV Movie. It's status is announced.
Galaxy Quest: TV adaptation of the 1999 sci-fi comedy 'Galaxy Quest'.

Galaxy Quest (TV Movie) cast and crew credits, including actors, actresses, directors, writers and more.

            Galaxy Quest (TV Movie)

            Full Cast & Crew

            Writing Credits (in alphabetical order)
            Robert Gordon
            David Howard

            Produced by
            Melissa Bernstein ... executive producer
            Robert Gordon ... executive producer
            David Howard ... executive producer
            Mark Johnson ... executive producer

            Company Credits

Since Amazon.com is IMDb's parent company, I would expect that IMDb will keep this listing up to date.

Awesome news! However, I'm a little doubtful that they'll be able to get the cast back for a TV movie and potential series. Allen maybe, but Rickman? And I don't expect more than a cameo from Weaver. Still, this could be fun!

Yeah, this made me really sad. As I posted on FB:

By Grabthar's Hammer - he will be missed!

If it weren't for his distinctive voice (loved his voice!!), I'm not sure I'd have recognized that Professor Snape and the Sheriff of Nottingham were the same person.

Will have to look for 'Rasputin' and 'Sense and Sensibility'.
