  • Daredevil Netflix series - SPOILERS

Wow. I just watched the first two episodes of this... and it just hits it out of the park.

The tone is PERFECT, the acting is great across the board. Matt Murdock and Foggy Nelson are just so well cast. The cinematography is stunning and very clever at points, taking unexpected avenues.

Oh and the fight scenes, they're next level, especially for TV. They're visceral, chaotic and look very real. They're amazingly choreographed, in so far that they look natural and not like two actors who've been trained to fight. They have a real physicality, and constantly observe the fact that Matt is blind, in the way he moves and the way is fights. It just made me smile with glee. It's an adult show, made for smart discerning adults. It's gritty, but doesn't feel forced or piled on like BSG or SGU sometimes did. It still has a human core, and plenty of humour to balance things out.

I'm a fan of Miller's work on Daredevil (Born Again) as well as the Bendis / Maleev run, and this just takes that world and translates it beautifully to TV.

This seriously wipes the floor with anything Marvel has done for TV. It makes Agents of Shield looks like childs play. Much respect to Drew Goddard (Cabin in the Woods) and the writing team because this is just astounding TV so far.

Bodes well for Sense8. The competition is hotting up!

Perhaps we should change the title or at least include spoiler tags. I figure quite a few of us will be watching this Strange how you stoped a two episodes Ubik, so did I. Loved the fight in the hhall at the end. I also likd
how they have not shown things form mats POV, at least thus far, only seen two episodes perhaps they will present it later. They did hint at it during the fight in episode one, with the chain clinking against the fire escape. It also shows how he is human, there is no super fast heaign, when he gets injured, he hurts
"There are no good wars. War is always the worst possible way to resolve differences. It degenerates and corrupts both sides to ever more sordid levels of existence, in their need to gain an advantage over the enemy. Those actively involved in combat are almost always damaged goods for the rest of their lives. If their bodies don't bear scars, their minds do, ofttimes both. Many have said it before, but it can't be said to enough, war is hell. "

I don't want to binge watch this... it's too good. Will likely do one episode a day.

That fight scene reminded me a lot of something like 'The Raid' or 'Oldboy', just so stylish and brutal. Yeah, Matt gets a beating quite a lot. I just did Episode 3, and still loving it. It's a slow burn, definitely has more in common with crime drama like The Wire than superhero stuff. The tone is just great. Really refreshing move from Marvel.

I watched episode 3 and four today as I didn't look at any yesterday. Episode three actually caused me to verbalise when
yer man impaled himself I swore aloud. But still I am not sure revealing fisks name was such a goo idea. The end of epsiode 4 was surprisingly vicious with the door slamming essentially decapitating yer man.

Overall quite a visceral, adult show.

            Yes.

The car door indcident really made me wince, as did the impaling. But I like that it properly sets up Fisk as a force to be reckoned with. I think Fisk is PERFECT. Smart and imposing / threatening as hell.

I haae discipline, I haae patience.

Mores to a point, I have class in the morning.

That being said, it was incredibly difficult to not watch episode six after the end of episode five but I have sorted it, won't do it.

Nope ! You are not alone

I am watching along (did 5 and 6 yesterday) - and I like what I see. Yes, it is visceral, an I winced at the same points as you did.

                Good fleshing out of characters.
Damn!, Fisk is vicious when he is angry

I may have to skip a few days this week, but I will probably get through it by the end of next week.

One thing I'm really liking is that Fisk and Matt clearly have more in common than they’d like to think.

The show plays with that quite successfully. Is Matt willing to become more like Fisk to get the job done?

FYI I've been queit in here the past two days as I still haevn't gotten past episode 5. Mon night I got terrible insomnia and was in a zobie like state of the living dead, in no position to appreciate the show. TodVy I felt better but I have part 1 of my swedish final tomorrow so by the time I watched gotham it was gone too late for another hour of tb.

I will try to catch an ep tomorrow and post my thoughts then.

I watched six last night, ye gods this is brutal
The death of the young cop, foolishly idealistic, the complete disregrd for human life shown by the kingpin. But that death, yeech. Even the nobility shown by vladamir at his end. This is impressing me more the more I watch it.

So yeah, didn't watch an episode today and spending most of sat and sunday watching anoher little show you lot migh have heard of, we are on to season 4 now

Just 2 episodes to go for me - it is really excellent.
Looking forward to watching them tomorrow.

Finished up with season one. And it's just been consistently brilliant throughout. I particularly loved that Matt is a real fully rounded human being with flaws, and broken bones... they did an excellent job of humanizing the 'super' characters.

Also, the show boasted some VERY strong dialogue and little monologues, and so many beautiful / quotable lines. Some of them kinda reminded me of B5's at its very best, but scripted in such a way that it all flows seamlessly in conversation and you never feel characters are monologuing at each other, instead of having a conversation. Also, great use of occasional voice over to drive certain themes home.

This, from ep12... such simple lines, but the weight they carried was amazing if you have the context:

                          Matt: Karen, did something happen?

Karen: Yes. [BEAT] The world fell apart.

Am I the only one that kinda lamented the appearance of the full on DD costume? For me it just lost some of the 'grit' and dynamicism of Matt just being all in black with a headscarf. I mean, from a technical standpoint it makes TOTAL sense. But I still find the full costume a bit goofy on a TV screen.

I almost felt like it was a shame they felt they had to use it. Apart from that, I have zero gripes. This was excellent TV that wipes the floor with pretty much every other superhero TV series out there.

I generally agree. However, I actually like that we get to the full costume. It completes the origin story, one of the best origin stories I have seen till now.

I foresee a few Daredevils at conventions from now on
