I just saw it. I loved it! I thought it was a lot of fun, very entertaining. I didn't know it was Directed by James Gunn. He's come along way since writing Tromeo and Juliet (1996). My biggest concern was that it would be geared toward children, despite being rated PG-13. Yes it has been marketed toward children, but this is not a kids movie - unless you are an adult kid. I wouldn't go into this one thinking it is going to be like other Marvel movies or that it is going to be anything but a fun ride and you'll probably like it.
Reviews are starting to come in for this, and critics have been overwhelmingly positive. Thus far, the film has 100% on Rotten Tomatoes!
Even the Guardian (lefty UK Newspaper) gave it a glowing review, and they are often snarky about superhero films. Many are calling Chris Pratt 'a modern day Harrison Ford', drawing comparisons to Han Solo.
Sounds like it's going to be a lot of fun! Definitely off to see this one on the big screen!
I have a feeling it could be big. I want to see it. I love Chris Pratt on Parks and Recreation, so I hope this is huge for him. It is already huge for him that he landed the role, but a big Marvel Box Office could really change his life.
Anyone here looking forward to the Guardians of the Galaxy film?
Marvel took a big chance making this, using characters like Rocket Racoon and Groot is a gamble as most of the general public won't have any idea who they are.
It strikes me that we’ve become so used to seeing recognisable characters on the big screen (endless sequels or iconic superheroes), that ‘new’ (or rather more obscure) characters in a blockbuster style film actually feels really fresh. The trailers looks great, and I like that they are pushing the more cosmic angle of the marvel universe. Most of all, the film looks like a hell of a lot of fun. Who knows, it may even out Star Wars, the new Star Wars flick. I have a feeling Marvel may have a sleeper hit on their hands.
