  • 8 year old accidental gun death

Read about this one this morning, I know it is contriversial but I honestly am asking, in what universe is it safe to hand an 8 year old child, even with suitable and trained supervision (as this kid apparently had) an UZI! seriously, can anyone offer me a logical argument in favour of this?

An 8-year-old boy died after accidentally shooting himself in the head while firing an Uzi submachine gun under adult supervision at a gun fair.

Mods, if I appear to be trolling I don't think I am, I honstly want to debate this hot button issue rationally.

"There are no good wars. War is always the worst possible way to resolve differences. It degenerates and corrupts both sides to ever more sordid levels of existence, in their need to gain an advantage over the enemy. Those actively involved in combat are almost always damaged goods for the rest of their lives. If their bodies don't bear scars, their minds do, ofttimes both. Many have said it before, but it can't be said to enough, war is hell. "

This is horrific and tragic. I imagine this incident may chance his parents' views on gun use for sport and 'fun'. We all get along just fine without the widespread availability of guns here in the UK.

There is no logical argument that explains why someone would give any gun to an 8 year old. I don't think you can argue such a topic rationally because it is a completely irrational action. There is only one right side of that argument. Anyone who says differently is wrong and should probably be investigated for mental health issues. There could have been a hundred professional gun experts standing next to the child and there still would be no excuse for that child to have had access to the weapon or even been near it. The person who brought the child to a gun show should probably be locked up. The promoters who put on the show should face huge amounts of blame for letting children in. The government officials who took the graft to make the laws that allowed the promoters to have an event that allowed children to be around dangerous weapons should be locked up. And lastly, anyone who attended such an event that allowed and 8 year old child to be put in a situation around dangerous weapons should feel absolute shame. You didn't bring the kid, but you supported the event that created the situation. . . I think that makes my point.

Never been a fan of gun shows (and yes I have shot a gun). Not much else to say.
