I think Ben Affleck is as atrocious a choice as he is an actor. However, we got our good trilogy, to let DC do what they want.

Happy 10-year anniversary to JMSNews Forums, BTW!

And here is yet another idea about the Affleck Batman choice. Isn't it possible that Affleck's Batman will not be Bruce Wayne? It seems to me that there was discussion about the continuation of the Dark Knight storyline having to possibly take place with someone other than Bruce Wayne as Batman, i.e. Robin or mystery person. Am I wrong or is it possible that Affleck's Batman will not be Bruce Wayne?
From what I've heard, Batman will be 'an older' Bruce Wayne. I heard some of the film may be loosely modeled after Frank Miller's 'The Dark Knight Returns', where Batman is forced out of retirement.

How about Batman vs. Alien vs. Predator?!?

It's quite a well made film for a fan production! Probably better than the nonsense we'll see in 2015.

From what I have read about this movie, it doesn't sound like a reboot.
From what I have read it sounds like the story about Bale being offered fifty million dollars to return as Batman was just based on speculation and not an actual offer.

Christopher Nolan was involved with Man of Steel and his IMDB page now has him producing Batman vs. Superman (2015), the title I did not want to see associated with this movie. (I also doubt that will be the actual title and is just a working title.) Having said this and the fact that the role has been recast I can't imagine this is not a reboot. I just can't buy that Nolan would take the Dark Knight from his trilogy and bring him into this Man of Steel universe. I also can't imagine that he would do it in a "VS" capacity either and that is what the project title is right now.

And I wanted to emphasize that it is being called BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN. So what they gained with me by casting Bryan Cranston as Lex Luthor they have now flushed away with this title.

To be honest, I don't think the sort of universe depicted in Nolan's films could believably cross over with Superman. What made people appreciate them (the "gritty realism" etc.) is also what makes the sudden appearance of an alien with superpowers narratively absurd.

Why can't they just treat it like the comic books. Granted we do occasionally get reboots but not near the number they keep doing. We get it. Peter Parker was bitten by a spider, we know who his friends and enemies are. now give us stories that continue beyond that. The same goes for Bats and any other costumed hero.

Money, Money, Money. The longer a series goes the more expensive it gets to keep the same people. The actors want more money for sequels that will probably make less money. That is a basic and very simplified explanation of how it works. Marvel has developed a brilliant strategy, but even now it is getting to the point where they may have a problem if they want to make an Iron Man 4 with Robert Downey, Jr. Luckily they already have him contracted for at least one more Avengers, but then what and what about their other stars?!

In the minds of Execs a reboot gives the franchise a fresh new look and for some reason the buying public keeps eating it up.

With regard to the Ledger announcement, I think the negative responses came from it seeming like an odd choice. I think any negative reaction to the Ben Affleck announcement stems from two camps. One camp is people who don't want to see the star of Daredevil and Gigli playing Batman, or people who just don't like him. The other camp are people who see this as being akin to the Schumacher era choices - based more on getting big names to put money in the box office as opposed to producing a real quality product.

Didn't everybody say pretty much the same thing, at pretty much the same volume when Heath Ledger was announced as the Joker?

After thinking about this, all three would be enjoyable as Batman. I will reserve judgement on Ben Affleck being Batman. However, I simply do not think it will work.

Agreed. Snyder couldn't direct himself out of a box.
