  • Star Wars question

    Hello, gang!

Sorry to bug you with a Star Wars question, but I can't think of a more helpful bunch of sci-fi fans than you!

    I'm fairly certain that a few years ago I found this picture online, apparently a still taken from a Return of the Jedi deleted scene;

If I remember correctly, the blurb for the photo identified the character as having a very unusual name, different from the kind of Star Wars names I've heard since I was just a kid.

Roll forward a couple of years, and (because of the blu-ray release) I've bumped into this photo again..., only now the character is identified as Colonel Cracken; a name familiar to anyone who has read even a few of the X-Wing novels.

So, to the question(s)...! What was the name of the character before he was 'retconned' as Cracken? In fact, was he indeed retconned at all? I'm just about googled out, and still with no luck....

I realise this isn't a life-or-death problem, but I'm one of those poor souls who cannot get to sleep at night if the answer to a question has eluded him. My mind'll be racing well into the small hours, driving me nuts!!!

Cheers, all! Hope you can help

I'm no help, but do you have any idea who the actor is? It might be possible to look it up in IMDb?

Thanks, Jan. I think his name is Mike Stevens or Michael Stevens or similar. I tried looking up RotJ on imdb but couldn't see any such actor listed, (and therefore no character name either).

Thanks anyway! And if you think of anywhere else I could try looking, please pipe-up!

I doubt the "character" was even named and wasn't meant to be anything more than an extra that wouldn't be seen at all...a quick shot in a montage during the battle at most. The cast listing probably would have read "Millennium Falcon Gunner" or some such.

The retcon itself is curious, as Cracken was a General in the EU well before the Battle of Endor. Did he take a temporary demotion during the battle since he was serving on the Falcon under Lando?

Yet another great character from the West End Games SW material, though. I really enjoyed the Cracken guides from them and his little blurbs on criminals, agents and pieces of technology. He and his son were greatly fleshed out in the X-Wing novels.
Recently, there was a reckoning. It occurred on November 4, 2014 across the United States. Voters, recognizing the failures of the current leadership and fearing their unchecked abuses of power, elected another party as the new majority. This is a first step toward preventing more damage and undoing some of the damage already done. Hopefully, this is as much as will be required.

Oh, I agree completely. That's why it caught my eye a few years ago that this character had been named at all. Its just that... I'm sure if it had been 'Cracken' back then, I'd have remembered it....

Mind you, SW has been retconned so much in the past few decades, how many of us can be sure if what we remember is now considered 'canon' or not? Ha!

Not to worry. If anyone has any ideas, please gimme a yell. It shouldn't bug me so much..., but it does!

Since Disney owns both Star Wars and the Muppets, does this mean Pigs in Space and the Star Wars-Muppet Show crossover are now canon?

                I think that's a certainty.

The Star Wars holiday special is cannon, also.

That's okay Dave, my question is for the exact same reason; to make myself feel better... and hopefully get some sleep!

When Disney and Lucas announced the merger, fans of "Once Upon a Time" wondered whether Darth Vader would eventually end up on that show.

                      Re. Falcon gunner

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I just thought I'd see if anyone's memory has recently been jogged...?

                      Cheers, all!

                        Arrrrghhhh. MY EYES! THEY'RE BURNING!

I've seen the holiday special once, and it was painful beyond belief.

If only they'd edit the two 5 minute halves of the Boba Fett cartoon together and include said cartoon as a Bonus Feature..., no one would ever have to watch the remaining 7 hours (that's how long it felt) ever again!

Yeah, the animated stuff is okay. It reminded me a bit of Heavy Metal, but perhaps not as good. Definitely very quickly cobbled together, or at least that's my thoery.

That's all true, but I can remember how excited I was when I watched at 8 years old.

Had to add this from Wookipedia.

"Excuse me Master Luke, but what is this strange world we’ve come to?"
"Beats me, Threepio. Seems like we’ve landed on some sort of comedy-variety show planet."
