  • Thanksgiving - with Spam

    Hi folks,

Here's wishing all of you, USian or not, a happy Thanksgiving. I'm grateful for many things, and one big one is this little corner of the Internet and all of you who make it fun.

There's an *extraordinary* number of spam posters this week so I apologize if I'm out and about for a while this weekend and don't smash/exterminate/nuke them as quickly as usual. I promise I'll check in and get rid of them as soon as I can.

Have a wonderful holiday and/or weekend!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!! Don't turn to the Dark Side! Don't!

New record, I just got rid of 77 posts this sweep. Thankfully I can do it by poster, not individually. <whew!>

Likewise, many thanks to Jan for this little B5 sanctuary! (Now spam free!) Have a great Thanksgiving... nothing much happening here in the UK except a distinctly cold climate and torrential rail.

Just say NO to Ugg boots. Full stop. (Sorry, a pet hate of mine. They have the capacity to make even the most attractive woman look silly).

Thank you, Jan. You are my favorite moderator.

I am a UKian (another made up word but you get the drift). I am very grateful to live in a free country like the UK, most similar to our Amercian cousins in so many ways.

The UK recently observed, at 11.00am on 11/11, our Remeberance Day observation...in the form of an annual 2 minutes silence for those fallen ones, who died protecting the world from the massive injustices that drove WWII.

I am very grateful to live under that banner of freedom and protection.

Since I was travelling for the holiday, I'm a little late with this, but I hope everyone celebrating Thanksgiving (or anything else last week) had a great one. Thanks to you, Jan, for all your efforts here, and thanks for everyone who makes it only one of two discussion boards I participate in.

They're like weeds. We've been playing nonstop Whack-A Spambot every day since Thanksgiving over at B5TV.com. We could really use a few Technomage holodemons right about now, to track these users down, format their systems and transfer all of their financial holdings into a spoo ranch.

I have no problem with that solution.

Anybody know why so many spammers post 13 times and then go away? No more, no less, it's like they have a natural limit or something.

Some forums now require email requests for membership because of the rise in spam.

It's weird to see dozens of 'guests' online when you know the site only has a handfull of regular daily members.

We do get a fair number of 'guests' who are looking up something in JMS' posts. And of course, the lurkers *far* outnumber the posters. Sometimes I feel like we posters are in some kind of performance art form!

He got a new, time consuming job back in 2007 and pretty much resigned. Sime I'm here 99 times a day (give or take ), there hasn't been any rush to find a replacement.
