  • So... The Doctor (Spoilers)

Drops off Amy Pond? If she's not in it, what's the point of this show? I protest.

Though, she has stated in interviews she's coming back for another season, so I guess it's only temporary.

Dunno. I got bored and turned off this week's episode. This season just isn't doing anything for me, particularly the last few.

Bwah? The series has been running since November 1963. Amy has been in it for less than 26 episodes to date. There have been dozens of companions. She's only a recent companion, but by no means the best. She's not even in my top 5 female companions list.

My interest in episodes without Karen Gillan drops by several thousand percent.

May have been my being out in the sun at a football game all day, but I passed out in the middle of the episode out of boredom also. I woke up for that end part.

Last few episodes have been by writers I havne't recognized either. Kidding aside, I wasn't particularly fond of this episode or the one with the little boy and the dollhouse. Feels like there's been a lot of filler when the first half of the season was so dynamic.

I caught that part. Fell asleep shortly after that.

I have no idea what the problem is with Doctor Who for me, these days. I loved RTD's take on the show, and DT's take on the character (and Catherine Tate, in spite of myself) and was really looking forward to Moffatt taking over as I thought he had written some of the best of the NewWho episodes to date, but ... it just isn't working for me.

Season 5 was less "fun" than seasons 1 to 4, which was fine, but this season is just leaving me cold. I love Alex Kingston, but even she hasn't been able to redeem the ridiculously twisting and turning Melody Pond/River Song arc, and Matt Smith still seems to veer from trying too hard to channel Sylvester McCoy's Doctor to trying too hard to channel David Tennant's Doctor.

              Clearly YMMV.

DW used to be the one and only must-see at all costs TV show in our house ... to the extent that we took the plunge and upgraded to Sky+ in early 2010 just to make sure we didn't miss any of it. We didn't bother with our usual family Xmas present of season 5 on DVD last year and half of this season so far is still sitting there unwatched.

And even the children aren't interested any more.

              Shame really.

Wow, I thought this season was the best so far of any I've seen. It's incredibly convoluted, that's one of the reasons I like it so much. Statues of angles that can kill you if you aren't looking, aliens you can't remember as soon as you look away, that scene with Amy in the orphanage was one of the spookiest I've ever seen in Any show or movie. Amy(who is fake) is worried about the real Doctor finding out about his death but tells the fake Doctor (who's actually real). I love the way Moffet actually uses time travel in the story. The Tardis used to be just at the begining to put them there and then just stayed or had to be found, that still happens but not every time. I really liked when the Doctor said he'd be back for Amy in 5 minutes and it she's grown up by the time he's back.

I really liked RTD's shows and seasons, too, but the paradoxes and strange monsters with these now are really good, I'm rivited. And I think Matt Smith is one of the best Doctor's, but I really liked David Tennant and Christopher Eccleston, too. I really liked Donna, too, and Martha, I didn't dislike Rose but I don't feel as positive about her as the others. (especally when she showed up in Turn Left, did she just have oral surgery, I couldn't understand her) I like Amy and Rory together as companions, it reminds my of Harry and Sarah, somewhat.

BTW, if a Silent and a Stone Angel are facing off against each other, if the Silent looks away with the Angel forget what it's attacking?

                  As I said, YMMV

The saddest thing for me is that the kids have lost interest, and it is going to take something special to win them back, but such is life.

As I understand it, I think it was the voice coaching she had received for her part as Belle in Secret Diary Of A Call Girl. As she was supposed to be a high class call girl, they wanted her not to have a "common" London accent, but it then seems to have become her normal accent.

Its been a mixed bag. I think trying to resolve the River Song stuff in Lets kill Hitler was too much. That needed to be a two parter. I really liked the episode where Amy is 30 years old, the Doctor closing the door on her reminded the audience he is a cold man when he wants to be. I even enjoyed last week's episode, but the Night Terror episode was resolved too quickly. I am curious to see the Lodger back and all the names that keep popping up in the cast list has me hella intrigued.

Martha is the worst companion. All of season 3 minus Runaway Bride, Blink and the Master episodes were weak sauce. I just never bought into that character. Although Rose has now become the new Doctor Who companion to hate, she did a lot in those two seasons to help bring the audience in. Although giving her the 10th Doctor was probably too big of a reward considering what happens to Donna. Season 5 was a lot of fun, so I don't get the argument for that. Amy is a good companion, but her and Rory have outlived their usefulness. A bunch of episodes this season felt like they were cramming Amy and Rory into them for no reason. Its time for new blood. Also, the correct answer is Sarah Jane Smith for best companion ever. Even Barrowman admits he stole from that character to play Captain Jack.

Found today on the Zocalo Today:

DOCTOR WHO -- NOT UNTIL 2012
The trouble with Time Lords is they're always jumping around the calendar, but we probably can't blame the Doctor for this. We've seen it coming for a while, and now it's confirmed: Doctor Who season seven won't premiere until autumn 2012.
Doctor Who Magazine has confirmed what's been suspected for quite some time about the Doctor's next set of timey-wimey adventures. There's no clear-cut schedule from the BBC yet, but it's clear that Doctor Who won't be returning for a good long while. Season seven won't even begin shooting until early next year, so everything is still very murky in terms of details, but fan site Doctor Who TV offered this schedule prediction:
                        2012
                        Easter Special
                        Autumn - Series 7 Part 1
                        Christmas Special
                        2013
                        Spring - Series 7 Part 2
                        Autumn - Series 8
                        Christmas Special
So, that's a little glimpse in the spring followed by a handful of episodes, one special, and then another handful of episodes. Those are just predictions, but it seems likely that the BBC's official schedule will look something like that.

Did they say why? Is this the thing with Moffet's schedule with the Sherlock Holmes thing? I'm muzzy-headed on the details.

Half year maximum. When the couple were given a house the write out has already been activated.

So who is the next companion?
People are guessing that it will be the Muslim girl who thinks she is English and offered the Doctor a cup of tea. Possibly in a different role.
