  • JMS calls for Norman Corwin to get Congressional Medal

    Reposted from Facebook:

Without Norman Corwin as a role model, I would not be the writer I am. Here's a chance to weigh in on the side of the angels. http://www.petition2congress.com/213...al-gold-medal/
For those who want to know who Norman Corwin is, and hear one of his most famous programs -- "On a Note of Triumph" aired on all three networks after the fall of Germany, which begins as a celebration and ends as a question -- as well as a documentary about him, go here: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/s...toryId=4668028
Other writers who said repeatedly that they were influenced by Norman's work: Ray Bradbury, Walter Cronkite, Charles Kuralt, Norman Lear, Studs Terkel, Rod Serling.
And on the petition itself, JMS wrote:

For dramas about the best of the American spirit, that questioned even as they celebrated, and illuminated as they entertained, that uplifted a nation in times of war and trial, this recognition is long overdue.

    Jan,

Thank you for posting this. I added this to my petition:
Awarding Norman Corwin The Congressional Gold Medal serves more to ennoble a grateful nation than to honor him. Norman Corwin's place in history is already firmly established. Awarding the medal would simply recognize the obvious.

Yesterday morning when I sent mine there had been 138 letters sent. As of this morning, there have been 210. Sure could use some more. This is getting Congress to move after all!
