  • Recasting and rebooting

I've launched a thread like this before but it was specific to B5, so I thought why not open it.

So, with all the TV shows and movies which are being rebooted, what would you like to see and with whom?

Personally, I discovered a brilliant TV show from the 80's called Hardcastle and McCormick. If you've not seen it, a retired Judge (Harcastle, played by the brilliant Brian Keith) takes a former con (McCormick - the excellent Daniel Hugh Kelly) under his wing and helps try to reform the young race driver. I'll be the first to admit that the stories sometimes were a bit obvious, but it was the characters and the heart of the show which shone through, and I loved it.

So, to play Judge Milton C. Hardcastle I would have another great actor who would play gruff very well - Brian Dennehey, and to play Mark McCormick I would cast Zach Levi, from another of my fav shows, Chuck!

There we go, lets see what everyone else thinks

    Battlestar Galactica.

In fact, I think there should be a BSG reboot every year, each with an increasingly strange take on the story. All starring the same actors.

Minus the robot dog, what was it called, Muffet or something?

I've got to be honest, I live in the UK and don't have sky so I've never seen an episode of new BSG!! I know, shame on me. Still haven't been subjected to a friend telling me what the end is so the end is thankfully still a mystery for when I do get round to seeing it

In this case, the ending is still a mystery even to those who have seen it.

          Ha ha

Every show I've liked (24, Lost, Chuck, Supernatural etc etc), I've watched the first few years, really got into it, then Sky have bought it. Damn their hides.

Supernatural was the worst as I thougt season 5 was going to be the last and I'd watched it for four years when they bought the then last season. I was far from happy!

And that's precisely why they do it ... to get people like you to pony up the dough for their television service so you can keep watching the show. Why pay out a load of money for an imported show that might tank when you can wait until a show is successful on another channel for a couple of years, jump in and nick the rights out from under them?

I think the truth is more likely that Sky buyers chose the wrong shows that season. The ironic thing about Sky picking up the rights is for most of the shows they have stolen from terrestrial TV those shows had gone downhill either before they picked up the rights or the first season Sky shown of them. 24, Lost, Prison Break All past their best. I must admit though I hope Supernatural has remained a good show?

The show I would like to see remade, re booted or continued would-be Space Above and Beyond but only with creators Morgan and Wong on board. You could bring back McQueen, West and Hawkes in secondary characters as you just couldn't recast. Either way I want to see what happens, those Chigs have it coming for what they did to Vansen, Damphouse and Wang!

You know, I've just been thinking about Space Above and Beyond recently, it would be good if they rebooted that. I loved that show, it was very well done. Would like to see that come back.

As for Supernatural, the review's I've read for season 6 haven't been great. There seems to have been some great stand out shows, but I think it's been given a greenlight for a seventh sseason. I do like that show, a lot, hope it picks up again. I'll buy the DVD either way mind!

Its been years since I'v seen it but I suspect that it was a very heavly inspiration for the BSG remake, arguebley moreso than the original BSG which only really provided the basic framework and a few designs.

One remake I'v been expecting for years is Quantum Leap.
                  Who are you?

Regarding New BSG, you haven't missed anything. It went downhill after the first couple seasons. I watched Season 3 out of momentum, but couldn't bring myself to bother with Season 4.

Supernatural Season 6 wasn't that great, but at least it still had a core of likeable characters.

I'm still buying Supernatural DVD season sets, but sold my BSG miniseries, Seasons 1 thru 3 and Razor.
