Anyone watching? I've read through the series which I've always been annoyed that he doesn't come out with the books in a timely manner for. This has stayed very true the books, but it's pretty darn gruesome. I'll be sticking with it for the time being.

Karen, I agree that it's kind of gruesome...but in a good way, if that makes any sense. Last night's was...wow. I know it's HBO, but still: wow. That was some fairly hot television. So, you do get the blood and the mud and the gruesome gore, the incest and the murder and the beating of children...but also some great television, and also 'teh hawtness' (as the kids say). :-D

Karen, if you're not so great with gruesome, I can't recommend it. My wife has already vowed to never watch the show again because of it. And even for me, actually watching some of the things I know are coming from the book, it's a different ballgame. It's still tremendously well done.
Hopefully they'll make sure to focus the show on the most important plot point of Danerys and her slave girl though.

I've read the books, but don't have HBO. I'll probably pick it up on DVD. I know people watching it, including the person who wanted me to read the books so badly, he gave them to me as gifts. The books can be a pretty grim read, and I'm sure seeing some of the stuff will be more intense. When reading, you can always start skimming. In many respects, I think the books were fairly faithful to the medieval atmosphere, which was really pretty grim. I remember "The Name of the Rose" with Sean Connery. Also supposed to be a good representation of medieval times, and also very grim making it, for me, a hard watch, so I have mixed feelings about watching this.
I really am looking forward to "Dancing with Dragons" in July, though."That was the law, as set down by Valen. Three castes: worker, religious, warrior."

I am a little shocked by people who think the show is grusome when the books' description is much worse. If you haven't read the books, don't until this season is over. Its better to be surprised. Also, book 4 was kinda lame. Book 5 looks to set things back on track.

I didn't think it was terribly gruesome, but I also wasn't terribly impressed. It wasn't bad per se, just kind of lacking in oomph. (Yes, I've read the books. They were much more exciting.)

I've not read the books, but if fans are happy that the show is faithful to them than I'm happy for you fans. (I'll catch up with the series at some point I'm sure.)
I just wish someone would take a stab at adapting George R R Martin's "Wild Cards" books.Got movies? www.filmbuffonline.com

Well, saw season one. Awesome. HBO needs to lock RR Martin into a dungeon with a wolf watching him, and he ain't coming out until he's finished the book series. Meanwhile, they need to film the show a bit faster. 10 episodes per year ain't enough.
