  • Wonder Woman (2011)

Adrianne Palicki has been cast as Wonder Woman in David E. Kelley's upcoming TV series.

The series pilot is a reinvention of the iconic DC Comics title in which Wonder Woman û a/k/a Diana Prince û is a vigilante crime fighter in Los Angeles but also a successful corporate executive and a modern woman trying to balance all of the elements of her extraordinary life. Kelley and Bill DÆElia (ôBoston Legal,ö ôThe Practiceö) are the executive producers. The pilot was written by Kelley and will be directed by Jeffrey Reiner (NBCÆs ôThe Eventö). ôWonder Womanö is from David E Kelley Productions and Warner Bros. Television.

So it's basically Ally McBeal as Wonder Woman..? Why not stay closer to the comics? I was looking forward to this, but now I'm not so sure.. sounds like another flop like the Bionic Woman remake. Oh well.. maybe it's better than it sounds..

Well when it's from David E. Kelley then it can't be bad. I absolutly loved Boston Legal. I'm sure gonna watch the pilot!

Yea I love BL too, but is the BL/Ally approach gonna work for Wonder Woman..? I imagine superhero stories as the kind you see in the comics and animated series, fighting supervillains and having epic adventures.. not as a courtroom/corporate drama.

The vibe I get from that announcement is Ally McBeal meets Smallville. Diana fighting for approval in the manly corporate world, having men trouble and such in private life, then the monster of the week attacks. I'm not saying that's what it's gonna be, but that's the vibe I get.. Hope I'm wrong.

I'm not going to knock it until I see it. I think it could be an interesting take. Superheroes just going and beating things up have been overdone and doing something different with them is important for keeping the genre fresh.

I know people won't like this example, but I think Smallville really pulled that off in giving Superman a fresh look, and there wouldn't have been much of a Superman mythos in this generation if it weren't for that show, like it or not.

...because it's not as impractical as bikiniwear?

No, because it looks like cheap plastic. Something you would get from a toy store. Especially the "gold" parts, the "eagle" and belt. The pants are a horrible shade of blue, and the top doesn't look much better. And why so bright red lipstick?? Maybe they can make it look better in different (darker) lighting, but in that photo at least, it looks just terrible.

The color scheme in the Jim Lee/JMS outfit looks much better to me:

Something like that, done with a material that looks more like leather than plastic, would work better IMO.

I'm not fond of the plastic sheen either but I'm so busy being glad it's not the old bathing suit, I can forgive much. I do with they'd brought the straps in the new comic costume over, though. I still say that fighting with that kind of top will cause things to fall out.

Maybe that's the plan ... what kind of series is this again?

The Pessimist: The glass is half empty

Maybe it needs better lighting. She looks like a fan at a convention that spent a little money and bought their costume instead of making it themselves.

That was my reaction. The costume looks uncomfortable and does not allow for freedom of movement. Plastic clothing does not allow the skin to breath and would cause overheating. Loose fitting cotton or an athletic fabric would be more suitable.

Looking again, are some of those elements photshop'd? The tiara, the waist band, the lipstick.

Im fact, the more I look at it, the more fake it seems. Does her face even look right, when you compare her face to the OP's post?

                              There's news on this topic

Looks a lot better to me. They even lost the giant red wax lips. And even though the red top is the same it looks a lot less like a plastic outfit. I think the first one was airbrushed/posed and lighted strangely, look how much more realistically she is shaped, not like a barbie but a person. Specifically, not to be crass, but her boobs look smaller and her waist isn't so narrow looking. She also doesn't appear to be flying out of her outfit like the first picture looks like she would if she moved.
