  • The New Superman Revealed....

This looks like it could be a good choice...

Apparently he was in Bryan Singer's top 3 picks for SUPERMAN.

    Britain's Henry Cavill.

Yeah, I remember his name floating about back in 2004.. with a dozen other names. And he's been among the contenders this time around as well, from the start. Interesting choice.

Routh was 26 when SR came out, and Cavill will be 29 when the new film comes out, so I guess they're going roughly for the same age.. but Routh would be 33 this time around, so maybe a bit too old already if they plan to start a new series of films, and build up to a Justice League movie.

Cavill has a sort of similar look as the Earth One Supes, I think..

Didn't John Cleese already write that?

Not the first time I am afraid...

A lot of the major comic book roles, certainly the most iconic ones, have/are not being played by Americans now.

        The new BATMAN...British (Christian Bale)
        The new SPIDERMAN...British (Andrew Garfield)
The new JUDGE DREDD...New Zelander (Karl Urban)
        The new SUPERMAN now British.

He does look like he would be good for the part though. I wish him luck.

I'm a huge BAT fan and despite how he is off screen, Bale has certainly proven himself as a great BATMAN/Bruce Wayne (that silly BAT voice aside).

I always loved Spidey and Dredd too, and whilst there were really great things about all their previous movie incarnations, There was still room to improve so I am really looking forward to the new outings that are on the way for both characters.

Despite the dodgy costume and weak story, one thing that really worked about SUPERMAN RETURNS was Brandon Routh. Whilst I can understand the idea of drawing a line under the other sequence of movies and starting new...I am just sorry that Brandon did not get another chance to cement his postion in the role.

I have also just realised...just how much like Bryan Singer does Cavil look, in that black and white photo of your post, Vakie? Spooky, or is it just me?

Yeah I suppose there is a slight resemblance.

Since this seems to be the thread for the new Superman film, might be good to post links like this here:

Christopher Nolan takes flight with Superman: æWe have a fantastic storyÆ

The topic at the Batcave on Monday night was the future of that other superhero ù you know, the one from Metropolis. ôItÆs very exciting; we have a fantastic story,ö Christopher Nolan said while sipping tea in the sleek editing suite that fills the converted garage next to his Hollywood home. ôAnd we feel we can do it right. We know the milieu, if you will, we know the genre and how to get it done right.ö

ôA lot of people have approached Superman in a lot of different ways. I only know the way that has worked for us thatÆs what I know how to do,ö Nolan said, emphasizing the idea that Batman exists in a world where he is the only superhero and a similar approach to the Man of Steel would assure the integrity needed for the film. ôEach serves to the internal logic of the story. They have nothing to do with each other.ö

Still, it was a frustrating moment in the Batman franchise that led to this new Superman revival. Nolan and Goyer, a key collaborator on both Batman films, were at a story impasse on the third Batman film (which is now picking up steam as well) when, as a distraction, Goyer gave the filmmaker a daydream version of how he would tackle a story about the last son of Krypton.

ôHe basically told me, æI have this thought about how you would approach Superman,Æö Nolan recalled. ôI immediately got it, loved it and thought: That is a way of approaching the story IÆve never seen before that makes it incredibly exciting. I wanted to get Emma and I involved in shepherding the project right away and getting it to the studio and getting it going in an exciting way.ö

Sitting in his edit bay, which is decorated with posters of Ledger as the Joker and has a skylight that rolls shut with mechanical screeching that adds to the Batcave ambiance, Nolan said he knows about storytelling and itÆs difficult to dissect his work beyond that.

ôWeÆre approaching it in a not dissimilar way in terms of trying to find an incredible story in a way that audiences can engage with it the way they engage with contemporary action films,ö Nolan continued. ôI think DavidÆs approach is a very good way of doing just that.ö

Personally, I couldn't care less about the new Superman, Batman, Spiderman, Dredd. But I just saw the Green Lantern Trailer. Apart from the really bad choice of Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan it looked quite nice.
Can't make up my mind about the Thor trailer though. Some things looked good but others kinda cheap.

Btw, does anyone have any news about the JMS script based Silver Surfer movie? The last thing I read was that it got shelved because Fanta 4: RotSS didn't do so well...

So, WB announced that Michael Shannon will be playing General Zod in the film. Also it was confirmed that the title is ôMan of Steelö.

Weirdly it was already rumored/confirmed from many sources back in October that Zod would be the villain, but Snyder denied it at the time, claiming "the internet has no idea what's going on". What an odd thing to do.

Other cast: Amy Adams as Lois Lane. Diane Lane and Kevin Costner as Martha and Jonathan Kent.

Also rumored back in October with Zod being the villain, was the basic premise of the story:

The story will follow Clark Kent, a journalist traveling the world ôtrying to decide if he should, in fact, even become Superman."
Which sounds somewhat similar to Mark Waid's Birthright story, from 2003, where "Clark Kent is a freelance reporter in his early twenties, traveling the world to cover news stories. While covering an ethnic conflict between the fictional Ghuri and Turaaba clans in West Africa, he is forced to use his super powers to attain a fleeing assassin. This results in Kent returning to Smallville to learn more about his alien heritage and make the decision to become Superman."

Birthright is a really bad story to try and do. It tried to combine the Donner films, Smallville, the first origin story and the Man of Steel story into one with a large dash of ID4. It also didn't have Zod, so I hope they are veering away from Birthright. I would have preferred Aragon who was up for the role.

The above link show a smaller but broader version of that frame, and also mantions a female Kryptonian that is with Zod.

There was a link to a bigger resolution pic in the article:

Dunno, seems to fit the part pretty well I guess.

Why does it look so scaley? The texture seems strange to me, unless it's a lighting problem, again.
"And what kind of head of Security would I be if I let people like me know things that I'm not supposed to know? I mean, I know what I know because I have to know it. And if I don't have to know it, I don't tell me, and I don't let anyone else tell me either. " And I can give you reasonable assurances that the head of Security will not report you for doing so."
"Because you won't tell yourself about it?"

"I try never to get involved in my own life, too much trouble."

I'd say that the texturing on the past two suits, is down purely to more people having TVs, PVRs , satelite/cable systems and disc players that all deliver higher resolution pictures than ever before.

Because we are all seeing much more detail from our panels/platforms these days, everything we see has to therefore have much more detail. It give the TVs something to do.

I assume that that's the general idea.

Along with a casting call for extras in Vancouver, was released a synopsis:

"In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Cavill) is a young twentysomething journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone's imagination. Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, an advanced alien planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question - Why am I here? Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Costner), Clark soon discovers that having super abilities means making very difficult decisions. But when the world needs stability the most, it comes under attack. Will his abilities be used to maintain peace or ultimately used to divide and conquer? Clark must become the hero known as "Superman," not only to shine as the world's last beacon of hope but to protect the ones he loves."

                            http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansit...icial_Synopsis

To me that sort of sounds like, while it is an origin story, it begins at the part right before he is about to become Superman, and the Krypton/youth parts are possibly only seen in flashbacks. So it's not a complete redo of the origin story, like the original movie.
