Everyone see it? I was so happy that we actually got the Christmas special on Christmas here in America I thought it was a pretty cute one, and done well. Didn't have enough Amy Pond though. I think they need to highlight her more.
I did, and I really enjoyed it. Thought some of the Doctor's quips and one liner's were really funny and on the nose. I think Matt Smith seemed a lot more comfortable in the character too, I don't know why, I just got that feeling. I always thought he was quite a quirky choice to replace David Tennant and its good to see him settling into the role.
I agree there wasn't much Amy, but it gave the Doctor a chance to really carry an episode about him and I didn't really miss her too much as I don't think they've done enough with her character yet. She's bags of potential, just need to see them give her a bit more to get her teeth into.
Overall, top effort from the Who team.
I'm a pessimist: that way you're never disappointed but frequently, pleasantly surprised

I was a little worried with Matt Smith that they were just making the character into a farce there at the beginning, but you're right, he's settled in very nicely. I think I'm enjoying his run as much as David Tennant.
They really set up Amy Pond interestingly with the first couple episodes last year, and fell flat on her storyline. She was almost creepy at the end of the first episode of this series with the way she was nearly stalking the doctor, and that really wasn't developed as well as it could have been.
I look forward to seeing this year, supposedly Neil Gaiman wrote a script.
Definitely happy that I finally watched Doctor Who in 2010 and can respond to these topics now
I finally got to see it when it re-ran last night. I wasn't thrilled about yet another redo of "A Christmas Carol" but I enjoyed this quite a lot.
I didn't miss Amy Pond at all. I've been thinking for a while that this Doctor has taken a back seat to Amy and Rorey (sp?) too often. I wouldn't mind a bit more of River Song, though. She intrigues me.
I still prefer the previous two Doctors over this one but I'm willing to be persuaded otherwise. I simply love that the show continually re-invents itself!

ETA: SotS: Yes, Neil Gaiman definitely wrote an episode. Not sure which season it's going to be in, though, this one coming up or the next one.
Hm, interesting that you all liked it...
I tried to watch it a few days ago (wasn't at home between X-Mas and new year's) and had to turn it off after 20 minutes. I considered it to be awful!
Well, maybe I just wasn't in the right mood. I'll probably give it another try during the weekend...
On X-Mas day I watched The End of Time and the Pandorica episodes again. Now THIS was fun...!
Definitely give it another try. I thought the beginning was pretty slow and was having trouble getting into it, when all of a sudden I found myself invested and wanting to see more.
I did on Saturday. Even watched it all the way to the end. However I still consider it to be the worst X-Mas special ever. Also never got that wanting more feeling you had.
The scene when the Doctor went back and appeared in the holo record was a bit funny. But that's about it.
Don't want to spoil it for you others. Just expressing my own opinion.
Too bad the new season is still so far away...
It may be that you need to be in a particular mood for this one. I started to watch it on Christmas day and it didn't engage me at all. Then I watched the rerun on New Years and enjoyed it a lot.
I really liked it the first time through but I really haven't watched it again.
The sound that the shark made annoyed me, fish don't vocalize, and the fact it was not in any way an alien type of fish bothered me, but not enough to bring down any appreciation of the story or the performances.
"And what kind of head of Security would I be if I let people like me know things that I'm not supposed to know? I mean, I know what I know because I have to know it. And if I don't have to know it, I don't tell me, and I don't let anyone else tell me either. " And I can give you reasonable assurances that the head of Security will not report you for doing so."
"Because you won't tell yourself about it?" "I try never to get involved in my own life, too much trouble."
I really like Matt Smith. I think that he is a great choice for the Doctor. I really did not at first, but then I suddenly 'got' him and how he was playing the character.
Now I think the he has really bought something new fresh and quirky to the role, just when it really needed it. Subsequently, on our second viewing of the fifth season (on Bluray ) I really enjoyed it.
That was why I was so thoroughly disappointed by the special. Relative unknown Smith had some really big shoes to fill in Christopher and David, and he did so very well indeed. So he really deserved a much stronger story than an obviously plotted Scrooge re-work. He'd proven himslef better than that.
Neil's episode is the third of the upcoming spring season.
This morning, Steven Moffat announced a revision to the running order of Doctor Who's forthcoming season. For those interested, Neil Gaiman's episode has been delayed a week to the fourth slot of the year.

That's still not too far away. Thanks for the update.
