Chris Eccleston Talks Leaving Doctor Who

He was in Heroes season1 ?!
Guess it's too long ago that I saw it for me to remember...

He was the Invisible Man.

What I found interesting was all the secrecy of his leaving. On the DVD set you can see an interview with him where he is promoting the show and telling how he is going to be there a long time. At that time the whole season had already been filmed, including his regeneration.

I think there is more than meets the eye. I had heard that he had insisted on a one-year contract. Did they really have any plans for more than one season with him? In any case, they did a great job with his departure.

Similarly, I can't imagine David Tennant staying into this season. I wonder whether RTD gave him his ideas for wrapping things up in The End of Time before David Tennant made his decision.

I really liked Eccleston as the Doctor and was sorry he left, but I think I've felt that way every time.

And yes, that's me tiptoeing around an issue because whenever I tell people straightaway, in plain terms (no swearing, no anger involved, just the plain truth) what I think of the issue that I think Eccleston is tiptoeing around, some people misunderstand, take offense, jump to invalid conclusions without thinking or actually reading the words that I typed, and pigeonhole me based upon their erroneous thinking.

Well, can't you reveal what you think the issue is, without giving your opinion on it? Or, give both sides of it without saying which one is yours.

That's what opinions are for ... I loved Eccleston's Doctor too.

Eccleston's work as the Doctor caused me to want to see his other work, and so I went to Netflix and put some of his other stuff in my queue. For example:

Death and the Compass (1996)
Elizabeth (1998) - Saw it.

The Second Coming (2003)
Heroes: Season 1 (7-Disc Series) (2006) - Saw it.
Lewis & Clark and Other Great Adventures (2007)

28 Days Later (2002) - Bought it and watched it before I ever saw Eccleston as the Doctor. I prefer Eccleston in the good guy/hero role, like he is in Doctor Who (2005).

Now, I'm an Eccleston fan, and will check out other stuff because he's in it, but only up to a point. No, I didn't see "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" (2009), because it's not my kind of movie. It's too "kiddie" for me (I haven't seen any of the Transformers movies, either.), and Eccleston probably doesn't have a big part and is the villain. OTOH, I did watch "Iron Man" (2008) because I'm a fan of Robert Downey Jr. (Gwyneth Paltrow didn't hurt, either. ).

Sounds to me like he's tiptoeing around an issue, and has said as much as he can say without stirring the ire of somebody, and by somebody I mean no one person in particular, just various people on the planet who are on various sides of whatever issue it is. I know what *I* think he means, but different people will almost certainly glean different meanings.

Personally I didn't and still don't miss him. Not because he was a bad actor or because I didn't like him but because for me he simply didn't fit the role. He just wasn't a Doctor type...

Probably culture means that he had absolutely no saying in how to interpret the role he had to play. That every last bit was carved in stone. Just a thought...

The problem with the whole new series IMO is that it's too much bla bla and a wee bit too humoristic. I know. Times and audience change and it has to appeal to the younger generation to survive. But still...
Also the new Doctor tries too hard to act like Tennant did. He has no own style of acting.
