I think it'd be really cool if someone would start a "year's best in sci-fi" thread with their opinion of the best book, tv and film for us to peruse and discuss
SmileOfTheShadow suggested this. Here is the thread.

This book actually came out late last year, but I only got around to reading it recently, it's "Diving into the Wreck" by Kristine Kathryn Rusch. I've read her Retrieval Artist series, which are also good reads.

Diving has sci fi with eerie mystery mixed in. Briefly, the main character, Boss, does wreck diving only instead of underwater, the wrecks are in space. She comes across an ancient Destiny Vessel which has a Room of Lost Souls, where she lost her mother as a young girl. She gets a crew together to investigate and scariness ensues. It's opened the door for a continuing series, and she mentioned in her blog that the publisher has already authorized the next book which should come out later this year.

I'm glad to have found a series of books to read, since I tend to stick to the same authors.

awesome spoo junky. I'm looking for some new stuff to read

Movie wise...I guess Star Trek came out last year? I just hate to nominate that as best sci-fi movie though. It's a good movie and all but I don't like calling it "good sci-fi" if that makes sense.

TVwise for me I would likely say the end of battlestar galactica which I just got done watching. Although I really didn't approve of the ending much (which I'll leave unspoilered) it was a good watch.

Avatar was one of the best science fiction movies I have ever seen, as well as one of the best movies in general. It had the science and it had the fiction, and I loved it.
