A plea to everyone, not just ZHD: I had this pointed out to me on another forum, that all every idiot and their mother is doing on every forum in every political discussion is beating on each other with the insult stick. The only game in town is the Bush Blame Game, and as everyone has already declared for one side or the other (myself included), it's a kinda pointless game, and it always degenerates to D00D U SUCK. Is it at all possible to actually have... I dunno, A DISCUSSION... ya know, the thing with intelligence and reason? Preferably about future goals rather than endless fucking he-said-they-said. 'Cause I'm getting sick of the repetition.

I think the deciding factor in this election is how energized the two parties are for their respective candidate. And here in "Berlin" (liberal city in conservative section of liberal state) the bumper sticker count I have been doing since March is 15-3 in favor of Bush. Far from scientific, I know, but highly indicative of the feelings (or lack thereof) that Democrats have for Senator Kerry.
You mean, highly indicative of the feeling people in "Berlin" - or those passing through, from point a to point c in your conservative wherever - have for Senator Kerry. Have a hard time believing you when you make sweeping generalizations based on a bumper sticker. Far from scientific, as you said, but more importantly also far from common sense.

Arguing with republicans about the Bush regime is as pointless as talking a nun into sexual intercourse...

Btw, I'm from Berlin too. The REAL Berlin(or the original one if you like the term better).
      What's up Drakh?

        Not quite.
You're more likely to get a polite answer from the Nun.

I know a couple people who took the Anti Bush bumper stickers off their cars because of harassment from Bush supporters.
The verbal harassment was bad enough.
The vandalized car was too much.

GREAT FALLS -- About a dozen pagans gathered at Town Hall on Monday to show support for Great Falls resident Darla Wynne.
Last week, Wynne returned home from dinner with a friend and discovered one of her parrots had been beheaded and his heart cut out, she said.

A note attached to the back of Little One, Wynne's 8-year-old African gray parrot, said, "You're next!"

Yeah, like the whackos don't say stuff for Bush/Cheney stickers.

Either side has a small minority who do stuff like vandalize cars. Just don't let me catch anyone doing it to my car or someone else's, regardless of what they have, be it Bush, Kerry, Nader, and maybe even Ross Perot.

I take car vandalism very seriously. I wish I had had someone there to defend my cars in the past when they've been broken into, stolen, etc.
Recently, there was a reckoning. It occurred on November 4, 2014 across the United States. Voters, recognizing the failures of the current leadership and fearing their unchecked abuses of power, elected another party as the new majority. This is a first step toward preventing more damage and undoing some of the damage already done. Hopefully, this is as much as will be required.

The responsibility for the utter visciousness in political discourse of late can be laid squarely at the feet of people like O'Reilly, Savage (boy is he trying to live up to his name), Limbaugh, Hannity, Coulter, etc.

            Traitor.
            Commie.
            They Hate America.
            Commie Pinko Liberals.
            "I got MY Gun ready!"

Shut Up. You have No Right To Talk! It's MY Microphone!
(They say this to the people they Invite to be "Interviewed" on their shows. I have no idea why Anyone is still foolish enough to Accept their invitations after the first two or three.)

Day after day, they spew hatred.
            Their audience cheers.
Then, the audience goes out and tries to emulate their "Heros".

The "Liberal Media", OTOH, is impossible to even Find on the airwaves.

Much less urging people to go out and "Do Something" about "The Enemy".

"The Enemy" somehow being anyone who dares to Disagree with these self appointed arbitors of all that is AMERICAN and PATRIOTIC and CHRISTIAN and GOOD and RIGHTEOUS.

I think Coulter is like a liberal in disguise trying to make the conservative cause looke ridiculous with some of her extreme views. The last chapter of her book Treason has some stuff in it that was amazingly extreme. She has said in interviews that it was mainly meant as a joke. Either way, she is friends with Bill Maher. I don't see how those two can be friends unless they avoid discussing politics. Ever try that?

Liberal: Man, 1.98 for a Coke!

Conservative: I know! And it's because the Democrats raised the sales tax again to pay for their welfare programs.

Liberal: Only because the money isn't there due to the tax break the Republicans gave all the businesses in town.

Conservative: Would you rather have them pack up and leave, taking their business with them?

              It's like...drink you Cokes.

My wife has a friend here at the plant who is an intern from the university and she told us this story how some woman with eight kids was ten bucks short on her total at the store one day, so she gave the woman fifty. I said something along the lines of "great, at least it wasn't tax money." And the girl like flipped. I have liberal friends, but they just don't go around bragging about their works.

What's funny is that most people believe Bill Maher is liberal. he is definitely a leftist, but he's an equal opportunity basher. One thing I respect about him, is that he always calls people on their B.S. Republican, Democrat, or Nader. He did a stand up routine where he spent half of it bashing Bush and the other half lambasting Democrats for not having a spine when it mattered and not standing up to neo-fascist agendas when they had their chance.

Maher admitted on his show to having voted for Nader in the last election because he thought it was "the right thing to do" ... he said this to Nader during an interview with him on "Real Time With Bill Maher", he then refocused the conversation on Nader and asked "but given recent events don't you think that it would be irresponsible to do that this time?"

He also stated that he is very against labels and feeling compelled to vote for someone based on party lines alone ... he's much more of a critical thinker than that and to call him something as simple as "liberal" is unjustified. He believes that the Republican's play "the word game better", a reference to calling things what they aren't and turning the word "liberal" from something good into something questionable. If you have HBO, his show is definitely worth watching. I have been in the studio audience once and in the studio audience of "Politically Incorrect" once as well.

                <Edit> Thought I'd throw this in ...
Oddly enough Z'Ha'DumDweller, I agree that Anne Coulter doesn't appear to be genuine. She's so 'over the top' it almost looks fake ... but then again ... if you look at her site, she has a picture of her standing behind the grave of Joseph MacCarthy. (I don't think I'd proudly display that ... especially if I was trying to maintain any image of political saavy)
People like her, on either side, scare me. She reminds me of that Political Officer that was sent to "help Sheridan" make more "politically astute" decisions ... but much more open with her bigotry, racism, classicism, and general hatred of anything that doesn't quite fit into her universe. I started reading one of her books ... "Treason" ... had to put it down four chapters in ... it was filled with wild accusations, abusive ad-hominem attacks, unfounded criticisms, and very little substance with poor source material as evidence. Too much of that stuff and you brain will rot halfway through the book ..

Well, if anything, Coulter is in it for the entertainment aspect, regardless of what she really believes. But she was right about McCarthy for the most part. We've discussed McCarthy on this board months ago so we don't need to rehash it.

I missed the McCarthy debate unfortunately, I imagine that was lively!! But I agree that she (AC) is probably on the entertainment side of things ... how firmly she believes what she says is another issue altogether. I liken it to telling a lie so many times, that you start to believe that the lie is the truth. Deep down she may know that most of her assertions are assinine but perhaps not. Yet again, it's not really her I'm worried about, it's all the people who believe in what she's saying. It's not like she has a small audience.

OH, on the Coca Cola tax front: In Florida, Coke is Not Taxed.
Coke convinced (Large Campaign Contributions are Very Convincing) the legislature that its products are an Essential Food Item and should be exempt from sales taxes.
Florida exempts most unprepared/uncooked foods from sales taxes.
How Coke qualifies as an "Unprepared" food is a little hazy.
Maybe it's the fact that you have to add Ice. Or Rum...

Sodas are also tax free in Texas...
I tend to drink Pepsi One myself.

BTW, Bill Maher defines himself as a libertarian, not a liberal... I freaking miss Politically Incorrect, even more now, with all that's happening and knowing that HBO has his new show and I don't have HBO (I cancelled my subscription to it long time ago, since I never had time to watch enough to make it worth it, and I still don't).
Such... is the respect paid to science that the most absurd opinions may become current, provided they are expressed in language, the sound of which recalls some well-known scientific phrase

Liberals and conservatives can both be libertarians, just about different issues. That said, both can also be authoritarians.
