    I have to admit she was never one of my favorite actresses, but she was very compelling, and as she would pop up on a show I couldn't help but watch her. Maude, Golden Girls, and even the occasional Love Boat, as well as the Star Wars Christmas Special. Thank you for your works.

    This is sad news. From Nikki Finke's Deadline Hollywood Daily:

    She died of cancer at age 86. By having the good fortune and good sense to appear in smartly scripted sitcoms, Bea Arthur helped redefine the image of women on television and in society as more than just eye candy: she brought her talent to roles as diverse as a liberal feminist in Maude, and as a vibrant senior in The Golden Girls.
