Naw, Spock's getting ready to cut that guy's head open and examine his brain.

They nailed the cast and I love the new uniforms. Still not 100% on the bridge. I'd need to see more of it to have a real opinion.

        All-in-all, very optimistic.

P.S. How bad-ass does Bana look?!

Looks like Spock is attacking Kirk in that shot. And note the NCC-1701 markings on the pod Kirk is climbing out of.

The ship being attacked is the USS Kelvin.

          Spoiler details from trekmovie.com:

The Kelvin is a Federation starship from a generation before the Enterprise and smaller than the Enterprise.
It is of a new ship class never seen before. The ship is commanded by Captain Robau (Faran Tahir) with
George Kirk (Chris Hemsworth) as first officer.

          The Romulan Ship
TrekMovie.com previously reported that the primary villains of JJ Abrams Star Trek are the Romulans, who come from the 24th century. They travel through time in a ship, but the ship is not necessarily built for time travel. The ship is commanded by Nero (Eric Bana). The design of the interior of the ship is apparently different than traditional TNG era Romulan design and said to be ร†surreal.ร† It is not yet known what the name of this ship is.

          Spockร†s Time Ship
As reported before, the Star Trek film involves time travel and elder Spock (Leonard Nimoy) traveling through time. However (contrary to previous rumors about the Guardian of Forever) Spock uses a Vulcan ship specifically built for time travel. The ship is small and has a crew of one (Spock). The film will feature the bridge and also the shipร†s รฆtime core.ร† It isnร†t known what the name of the ship is, and it may be that the ship has no name.

OH NO! Not more of this xxx crap (in the spoiler text)! Please mummy, make it stop!

And honestly, the first two pics look somewhat like Dawson's Creek in Space. BLEH!

I know, hardly a mature way to deal with what is presented, but these are the thoughts which immediately sprang to my mind.

OMG, I totally agree with I Love Lyta. These are a bunch of kids.

This looks like they've given a star ship to a teen gang! I don't know that much about the story since I try to stay away from spoilers, but unless this is just a training mission in the course of the academy training ... who in the world would give a ship to a group of ONLY young people? No senior officer, as in "old"?

I wonder if it might be a dramatization of the
Kobayashi Maru test which (iirc) was how Kirk became the youngest starship captain.

I am also a bit skeptical about how young the actors appear together here... but to be fair, the Trek lore is that Kirk was the youngest officer at that point to have earned his own command in Starfleet. So, that may be depicted here...

The movie starts out with Christopher Pike commanding the Enterprise, played by Bruce Greenwood (52),
so atleast at first there is a seasoned captain on the bridge.

Simon Pegg (Scotty) is 38, and Karl Urban (McCoy) is 36.

                    About Kobayashi Maru:

                    Other ship locations
In addition to the above four ships there are some other ship locations that will be seen (and had sets built). These are:

                    * Medical shuttle (from the USS Kelvin era)
                    * Transport shuttle (from Kirk’s time at Academy)
                    * Federation Ship Bridge Simulator for Kobayashi Maru Test (redress of USS Kelvin bridge)

                    More photos:

entirely my own speculation, but I'll put it in spoiler tags in case:

Perhaps we will see the accident that cripples Captain Pike in this movie? They were never too specific in the series about the location of the accident; only that it happened on a "training vessel."

The EW article is now online, with some more spoilers.

                        http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20233502,00.html

** No longer are their signature Trek weapons boxy plastic toys, but sleek silver gizmos with spring-triggered barrels that revolve and glow in the transition from ''stun'' to ''kill.''

** ''In a world where a movie as incredibly produced as The Dark Knight is raking in gazillions of dollars, Star Trek stands in stark contrast,'' Abrams says. ''It was important to me that optimism be cool again.''

** Star Trek's time-travel plot is set in motion when a Federation starship, the USS Kelvin, is attacked by a vicious Romulan (Eric Bana) desperately seeking one of the film's heroes. From there, the film then brings Kirk and Spock center stage and tracks the origins of their friendship and how they became officers aboard the Enterprise.

** The storytelling is newbie-friendly, but it slyly assimilates a wide range of Trek arcana, from doomed Captain Pike (Bruce Greenwood) to Sulu's swordsmanship to classic lines like, ''I have been, and always shall be, your friend.''

** The opening sequence, for example, is an emotionally wrenching passage that culminates with a mythic climax sure to leave zealots howling ''Heresy!'' But revisionism anxiety is the point. ''The movie,'' Lindelof says, ''is about the act of changing what you know.''

** ...One other essential element in Team Abrams' conception of the new Trek: getting the old Spock. Abrams felt Nimoy's Obi-Wan-ish presence was so crucial, he told the studio he wouldn't move forward without him.

** Kirk spends much of Star Trek dressed in respectable black รน space-cadet colors in Abrams' Trekverse

I've already heard a few complaints about the "new" bridge, they remind me of someone trying to reverse that IBM commercial Avery Brooks did a few years ago:

                              JoeD80:

From what I've been able to tell, Abrams et al have been trying to stay within Trek continuity, so that event with Pike happens a couple years after he leaves the Enterprise, not the cause of what makes him leave.

I forget who mentioned the age issue but, with the exception of Anton Yelchin, the actors are in their late 20s, early 30s. Now, given current Trek continuity, Pike served as captain for one 5 year mission, and Kirk for two 5 year missions. The second pilot, "Where No Man Has Gone Before," is the only episode that we have that takes place during Kirk's first 5 year mission. This movie is the beginning of that mission, so this movie is 1-5 years before that episode. In that case, I think the ages of the current actors are fine.

(Yes, I know WAY too much about Star Trek)
