  • V finally coming back?

Scott Peters (4400) is writing and producing a remake for ABC and Warner Bros. Kenneth Johnson is apparently not involved, even though he's tried to get a sequel made for a long time now. I think his latest plan was to make two feature films: the first one to remake his original miniseries story, and the second one a sequel, but not the final battle story.

This Peters project also appears to be a remake set in modern times:

In this case, the new "V" will center on Erica Evans, a Homeland Security agent with an aimless son whoÆs got problems. When the aliens arrive, her son gloms on to them ù causing tension within the family. As in the original "V," several storylines will unfold simultaneously.

But even without the same storyline, the original "VÆs" bones will remain: As in the Æ80s version, the show will open with an enormous army of spaceships hovering over the worldÆs major cities. The visitors say theyÆve come to help Earth, but their motives are nefarious (in the original, they wanted to steal the worldÆs water supply).

I'll be honest...I am sick of remakes.
Recently, there was a reckoning. It occurred on November 4, 2014 across the United States. Voters, recognizing the failures of the current leadership and fearing their unchecked abuses of power, elected another party as the new majority. This is a first step toward preventing more damage and undoing some of the damage already done. Hopefully, this is as much as will be required.

Yep, same here. Is it really that hard to come up with a sequel story, instead of rehashing the same material..

It did work with Battlestar Galactica tho, but I think in that case the original series had a lot to improve upon.

With the new Knight Rider, they went for a sequel instead of a remake, which I think was the better choice, quality of the episodes not withstanding (haven't seen it yet).

The thinly veiled premise played when I was 12, but I don't see this working a second time around.

Of course there are more 12 year olds out there, so who knows?

I've seen one episode of KR and the only thing that I enjoyed about it was staring at Paula GarcÚs.

Totally agree with you... What IS wrong with writers today (JMS excluded of course), nothing original, everything reworked or re imaged... Kind of like all the fat kids who nitpicked movies grew up and became their worst enemies, Movie Producers!!!

Being also a Star Wars fan, Cartoon Network's 2003 Clone Wars is much, much better than George Lucas's 2008 Clone Wars. Why mess with an already established canon story line and redo Clone Wars?

Next on the Simpsons "Comic Book Guy" gets to make an action movie in his own image...

If memory servers isn't this the IP that causes WB to not trust science fiction because they lost so much money on it, and that is why WB never really supported Babylon 5. My question is if you don't support something you know that makes money like Babylon 5, why are earth are they spending money on something that seems certain to loose money? Not all Scifi is BSG some of it is just left dead. And after these long delays between seasons and even during the season I'm glad we will soon be putting the shovel to Battlestar again.

I also agree I'm sick of remakes their more than enough good books and ideas out there they could come up with something new to put on tv. As to why they keep doing this it seems to me the studios looks at what they own and say its been about 20ish years since it was on that means there is a whole generation of kids that have never seen this before. Batman would be the Classic Example of this: Adam West Batman 1966, Michael Keaton Batman 1989, Christian Bale Batman begins 2005. All within that + or - 4 years of the 20 year range. Studios can always find someone to write these things there are always people looking for work. I think that is why some of the better writers choose to work on these projects because they think they can make it better than it might otherwise be, but that very rarely seems to be the case.

As for crappy remakes or the likes: Over here the Flash Gordon series just started two weeks ago. AAAAAAAAAWFULL!!! *vomits*
Sorry, had to get that off my chest.

And more on topic: I really don't want to see a remake of V either. The image of Robert Englund as some shy and rather helpless lizard guy still makes me chuckle.

OK, I've seen the first two episodes of KR, and... dear god. This must be some of the worst writing I've ever seen. Shows like this never cease to amaze me.

I mean, there must be hundreds of people working on the show, and buckets of money poured into this, and at no point did ANYONE look at the script and say, "Don't you think we should atleast try to get a 10-year-old to write this, because this was obviously made by a 5-year-old throwing random words on a page?"

Here's an interview with V creator Kenneth Johnson from last month.

                    This quote caught my eye-

The book was well received and got some lovely reviews, but my miniseries remained unproduced because virtually all the outlets for minis dried up -- except for SciFi Channel, who wanted to make it, but Warners has been unable to make a deal with them on any project.

Yeah, Kenny wishes them best of luck, but you'd think they would've learned after V: the Final Battle took such a bad turn that Kenny dropped out and had nothing to do with it.

I e-mailed him about an astronomical error I noted in V: the 2nd generation book. And we got to talking about the re-make and such.

                          *Sigh*

If you have the technology to move your entire planetary population into space and between the stars, settling onto another planetary surface is the LAST thing you should want to do.

Once you're a spacefaring species, it's got to be far easier to get water and metals and other materials from asteroids and comets than it is to DRAG them up out of a gravity well.

I just finished the book last night. (Stayed up late, dragging ass at work today...)

There could be plenty of sentimental, psychological or aesthetic reasons to want to re-settle planetside, to counter pragmatic ones to stay in space. And if you have the ability to make space elevators that reduces the disparity massively.
