Well.. I found various old threads but no general catch all XI thread.

Recent interview from Abrams:

Improving Star Trek means appealing to more than just the devoted Star Trek fan. "The whole point was to try to make this movie for fans of movies, not fans of 'Star Trek,' necessarily," said Abrams.

I feel like I've heard this before when they were pitching Voyager...Enterprise... Wasn't the decontamination chamber and big boobs the kind of stuff they used to appeal to "more than just the devoted Star Trek fan?" I think that kind of watering down the show is what ruined the franchise, and here we are with the same lines again. I'm scared.

The only thing I am looking forward to about this movie is the music of Michael Giacchino and maybe the look of the new / old USS Enterprise.

Can't say I disagree there, Doom Shepherd. I suppose one can't help but pre-judge some things - I recently mentioned how pleasantly surprised I was that I loved "Heroes" when I was completely indifferent to it before it began.

But scared? Concerned? Worried? Over a piece of entertainment? Nah, I don't have that much room in my 'worry tank' as the Rev. Will might say.

I trust Abrams to put story first, and that is what separates good Trek from crappy Trek. Besides, you've got to admit that even the TOS put quite a bit of faith in boobs (or at least sexy aliens for Kirk/Spock/Bones to dally with for an episode or two), that didn't start with 7 of 9 and T'Pau.

Also legs. Those had to be the shortest skirts on television. Also lots of Captain Kirk with his shirt off. It wasn't only the ladies flashing skin in the 60s.

Well, I am highly skeptical about anything that gets associated with "re-imagining" a classic show, book or film.

But the new Star Trek movie would certainly score alot of points in my book if they return the character of James Kirk into the exceptional military tactician and respected leader that he was originally supposed to have been... the young, highly decorated, officer who ultimately became the youngest starship Captain in Starfleet (and not the buffoonish, lucky as hell, "Thank God Spock figured out something" character he was portrayed as in the movies)...

In short, I would welcome a return of some seriousness to Star Trek.

Indeed. That would be a very nice turn of events. How long til this thing comes out?

They moved it after seeing the first daily's come in. They were reportedly so impressed they finally decided Trek could be another SW level franchise. I am very much looking forward to this film. If you look I've posted several links in other threads. The best place to check out the latest and get a good sense of the energy and passion behind this film is at Trekmovie.com. JJ, Orci and Kurtzman as well as the cast all seem to "get it" in a big way! Go read up before thinking ill of this new film.

This is not Berman's Trek. Totally different thing. JJ et al have a clear vision of how to make Trek great and bring it to a new level never before seen. Everyone involved as stated this film will be "epic." It even brought Nimoy out of 18 years of retirement. After reading the script he said he just couldn't say no, that the script was amazing.

This is my big 2009 film! I only wish Paramount had left it being released this Christmas! Less competition and Trek films have always done very well during the Holidays.
