    Happy 25th Anniversary TRON!

    Yesterday, July 9, markedt he 25th anniversary of the release of TRON. Not only did the film pioneer the use of computer effects that would make Babylon 5 possible, it starred John Sheridan and Londo! Errr... Bruce Boxleitner and Peter Jurissic. (SP, I know...)

    TRON is awesome. I have loved Boxleitner ever since.
    Recently, there was a reckoning. It occurred on November 4, 2014 across the United States. Voters, recognizing the failures of the current leadership and fearing their unchecked abuses of power, elected another party as the new majority. This is a first step toward preventing more damage and undoing some of the damage already done. Hopefully, this is as much as will be required.

      I just wanted to clarify that TRON was awesome because it looked really neat and had some classic cheese in it.

      The silly -- if not overt -- "message" totally failed, just as the literary forebearer of all anti-technology media, Brave New World fell flat and isn't relevant at all. At least TRON didn't try to be too preachy with the message. It was mindless fun. That is all.

        I believe the literary forebear of anti-technology was Frankenstein, as evidenced by the "franken-" prefix used by anti-science and anti-technology organizations like Greenpiss.
        One might argue that the actual literary forebear was the story of The Golem, but that doesn't stand for a simple reason: a much greater number of editions of Frankenstein in many languages all over the world.

        Also, Brave New World keeps getting re-published, so even if its message fell flat I wouldn't call it irrelevant (at least not as literature).


        Oh, yeah, this is about TRON....

        I think it was a great movie, the idea of digitizing people was silly (even for the nerdy pre-teen I was back then), but the story was OK, and the effects!!
        The Visual Effects were amazing!
        Now they might look cheesy and outdated, but for 1982!

          Nothing wrong with a story that doesn't have a message to it. In fact, sometimes I prefer it that way. Besides, the book can still be used as a learning tool, albeit in other ways.

          It was huge for us kids, because Ataris were becoming household fixtures and video games were the future. A movie about being INSIDE the games was a cool concept. We played TRON with flying discs for months afterward.
